Has anyone fitted a comfort roof module to the Z4E 89? I own a 2016? I can open the roof with the key but it would be nice to be able to close the roof with the key. I believe this is possible fitting a retro fitted roof module. Has anybody got any recommendations of the module to fit?

Weird, I can open and close the roof with the fob. But it required a reprogramming for the American models.

SmartTOP module is what you need. Quite pricey, imo. Maybe stick a wanted ad in the for sale section.

Unless your car has the comfort opening option a previous owner must have fitted the SmartTOP device 👍

You need a SmartTOP module which is great piece of kit that is supplied by mods4cars from the US for $429 excl shipping. Seems pricey but I've had it on 2 cars and found it very useful 👍

What did you use need do this, assuming Bimmercode?
Matt, as Peter etal wrote, you need comfort access. Hopefully you have it with the 35i. If you do, then speak to Adrian at https://www.sfbmwcoding.com. Proper bloke. He's near Westlake. Happy to go there with you.
(This information was exchanged for a pair of shifting paddles. You're welcome.)

What about with this SmartTop device, still need CA for that?
No it’s either smartop onto of the basic system alll E89s have OR comfort access …

Comfort access is not just software ..it’s a whole load of hardware…different door handles, several aerials etc …so there is no simple coding option ..very very involved to do a non comfort access to comfort access upgrade!

My God…disappointing..😳🤣I see a couple of the US forum guys did it..respect…🤔🙏
Yes I've seen those, but look at all the trouble they went to.
Give it time 😂
NOPE!

Personally I prefer the pressing of a button and inserting the fob, that way I know where the key is at all times.
Don't get me wrong, I can do it (I've made full looms up before) I just don't want it. If I've got to take my key out of my pocket to lock the house door, well I might as well press the fob and open the car. I see the only advantage is to not have to take the key out of your pocket, and I'm not that lazy!:driving:

FWIW despite having CA I never use it..good old fob in the slot and press the buttons on the centre console..

The orginal techical training said it was an abuse and you should only operate the roof with the engine running..that was before the marketing guys got hold of stuff..
