New to the Z4

Sorry, don't agree. This is a very successful car forum (probably the busiest single model forum left on the web) partly because people DO give their opinions freely, liked or not by the majority. If new members are going to get the hump when a reply isn't exactly what they want, we are better off without them IMHO.
The OP's first post was a 'give me information' type post. There is an unwritten etiquette on here that you introduce yourself and go from there, gently. If newbies just wade straight in with "oi you lot, tell me stuff, now, and I'll be gone" attitude it doesn't go down well with some.
This forum is the most welcoming I know, as long as new members are polite and respectful on first contact.

That is MY opinion!

Brutal..is this a recent development?

I think for me this is why I find it poor, I agree this is a great forum with some fantastic members with great advice & knowledge, however when one of the first comments is the car has been ‘bastarised’ it does not make a great impression and could put new members off

My bad..I’ve booked a diversity and empathy course as a Christmas present…profound apologies to current and recently departed company…

Yes I missed it too…. So intrigued now. For the record, (sorry I am going to have to give my opinion) I think this forum is exceptional in terms of advice given and there are about 10 people who regularly give advice (you know who you are) and for the most part threads stay on line with the OP. Unlike FB. The only thing that makes me wince sometimes is the routine carving up of car enquiries and demolition of car adverts. I think my cars are brilliant (well you do don’t you?) but even I would be wary of submitting an advert to this site. I think the problem is that we (regulars) treat the site as an old fashioned forum, newcomers see it as an extension to FB where it’s carnage and do what you want without the etiquette. Most will come and go but some might stay thus increasing the membership and thus the longevity of the site. Brutality at the outset may not be the best answer. I should say however that Mr Tidy does a great job in welcoming newcomers.

Well put!
And if it doesn’t stay like an old fashioned forum then we may as well join all the others spouting crap on fb.
It would be nice if new joiners took a moment to get the flavour of the forum before pitching in. Most do, and it is obvious when they have. Others just wade in as though it’s fb and seem to come pre-armed for a traditional fb slanging match before they’ve even started.
Those are the ones who stir up the regulars and usually don’t hang around.

He was basically asking if anyone knew the car and provided the link to the advert.
The number plate was covered so not much help..
He then took offence when we criticised the car.
Hadn’t seen that.
I think I would have said no I don’t know it but as you have come to a forum full of experience you may wish to note the following…………

Basically, it looks like it’s been messed about with so be wary.

Now that I have seen it, it’s not as bad as I feared and is not that over priced for a late model low mileage 35is. Other than wheels (a lot of people do wheels - even two of mine have non-OEM) and painted calipers (meh) it’s not too OTT in my view. Not for me as I like standard (yes I know - wheels above).

You can maybe infer that he took offence but only 2 posts, one with initial question (subsequently deleted) and a second that was courteous enough.

Asked a seemingly straightforward question 'does anyone know the car' but just got a host of blunt or unwelcoming responses! Odds on anyone on here knowing a particular car are always quote low anyway since the forum is only a tiny snapshot of all owners.

This was I was trying to say, you have worded it much better!

I described it as bastardised cause it was…

The car wasn’t fitted with PDC …rather than do it properly there was a tacky who flung dung Temu thing tacked on.

The aerial was neither an OEM whippy or stubby..

The rear speakers on the bulkhead were technically wholly inappropriate on various levels

The steering wheel refit left me cold

The caliper paint was bit naff

The wheels were described as 326m which they were not

Given the price the presentation left a lot to be desired

Maybe the OP has been slightly knocked by B21's 'shock and awe' approach / introduction into E89 ownership, but hopefully it might of saved them from departing with lots of dosh from what might / could have been a potential expensive lemon (B21 being the most experienced in all things yellow  )
