E89 M sport buying advice

Hi all. I've just seen an E89 pop up on autotrader and it's local but just want some advice as always. It's a highline edition 23i M sport sold by BMW specialists and looks to be in good condition. What price would be recommended for this spec. It's listed for just under £10k but I know it can't get pushed down to under £9k. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

My preferred specs are grey/black/silver with red interior and idrive

Ahh, Cramag pricing!
I know the dealer well as it is 3 miles away.
They are family owned, and have bith a good reputation and good stock, but their prices are very much at the "ambitious" end of the scale.
I would say that is,at very best, a £7.5 - £8k car.

I looked at a couple of cars there but their reluctance to move on price meant I went to the south coast and bought a 2011 30i M Sport with a touch more mileage and full history for £8k.

Haha I'm not too far myself. Honestly looking at autotrader, there's only two 23i M sport and both over £9k. I've been looking for a few months and on average they're £8.5k+ for an auto.

I made a post a couple of months ago and forum members were saying same thing as yourself but I'm yet to see once priced around £7-8k.

It’s a fully loaded example.
Also Auto trader has it on the "lower price" end of the scale.

I would say it’s worth it, given the options and the low miles, for it’s age.

Go and drive it, see if you think it’s worth it. That's all that matters.

You will always get the same answer on the forums when ask the price of a dealers car it’s always the same, over priced etc!

If you are happy with the car and the dealer I would say go for it. If not wait and buy one for less when a private sale appears

You're not wrong. I even searched on this forum for previous sales and the 23i M sport in auto is just so rare and definitely not at cheap as what's being mentioned. However the current asking price is definitely on the higher end for sure.

I'll have a look next week if it's still on for sale. Thanks

The car in the advert has very worn roof and driver's heated seat buttons which need replacing. Unusual for a car with 58k to have so much wear IMO. If the roof has been used a lot (to wear the buttons) could be trouble brewing with the very very complicated roof??
Just a thought.

Thanks that's good to know. Are you seeing wear/damage on the roof itself or just the buttons.

I have seen plenty of Z4 E89 with the roof and seat buttons worn. I think they are just a poor design and can wear quickly

I noticed the buttons, seen it happening on a few cars.... could it be a previous owner with false fingernails?

Honestly if anything I may just end up going with the 20i/28i since I want to daily the z4 and most would be local driving. Obviously what's putting me off the 4 cyl is the timing chain issue.

It’s not as bad of an issue people make out.

You have plenty of notice if it’s gonna happen.
You can test the chain with an o-ring pick through the oil cap. If it’s tight, you have no problem. If it’s got play in it, or loose, then it will need attending to.

£1500 from BMW sorts it out. I had mine done this year.
