Not so connected drive anymore!

I used to own an e89 with nbt idrive system .
I currently own an F31 with the same system.
My subscription ran out on 30 November, went to renew it ands it’s no longer supported.
Anyone on else found this ?
Does anyone know of a ‘fix’ for this, in that an update or new head unit.
Interested to hear from others folks who have had this issue .

Isn’t it because of the 3G switch-off, so the SIM in the car no longer supports data transfer…and falls back to 2g for simple tasks only.

I have a live subscription, but can only really get the basic find-my-car and send POI to car.

If you’ve got an LCI model with NVTEvo ID5/ID6 / professional nav then you may be better off using CarPlay. I find Waze much better than the built-in satnav too, and you get better traffic notifications & real-speed warnings.

I actually use the news function most , when I’m in traffic it’s useful to read , and also the remote lock function but these are gone .
Oddly though the weather function works fine .

It’s not NBT it’s the earlier CIC..

As mmm-Five stated it used a 3G modem ..3G is long switched off in UK..

Mathematically possible to upgrade it but huge cost / time / effort..

Fitting a decent MMI box is the gold standard solution…

I’ve been told it’s in what bmw term ‘sunset ‘ as it’s nearing its end ( the idrive that is ) but it worked perfect up until the 30th.
As with everything in life it’s reached its end , which is a shame as I’m not interested in the aftermarket options , just a shame as it worked pretty well for my needs .

MMI isn’t really aftermarket..it allows you to embrace CarPlay / android auto which are markedly superior to the bmw apps..imho just trying to be helpful

your help is appreciated make no mistake , as that’s why I came here . I’m not tech savvy and have no idea about mmi boxes , I was happy with what I have lost .
Can you recommend a suitable box ?
Our car is a 2012 with professional nav ( large screen) if that helps .
And any recommendations on installation experts .
I also have CarPlay on another bmw as standard is a mmi box similar to that ?
Thanks for the help

The Mr 12 Volt MMI box is the gold standard…AnnubisZed does a very professional installation at modest cost..I believe ..that’s the cost bit…

There’s only one idrive screen on all E89s.

The user experience will be very similar to that on your other car..

The box itself is about the size of 3 packs of ciggies..hidden behind the dash..

All your existing idrive functions are retained..it’s a win win..

Agree with all B21 has said - and he does know his stuff.
Honestly the MMI box means you gain so much and retain a completely standard look and control.

It may seem like an unwanted change but it was designed to retain originality.

AnnubisZed is a truly lovely guy and is a master of doing these installs (he did a Bluetooth upgrade for me recently).

If you do it you won't regret it.

So I think a few are possibly getting confused here (or I am!). So you no longer own a Z4, but now own a 3 Series Touring. So yes it could be NBT if it was built from November 2012 onwards, but if it was earlier (February 2012 to November 2012) then it'll be F-Series CIC (the E89 being E-Series CIC only). For clarity I've attached the visual difference between the CIC & NBT main screens, hope that helps. For an mmi box to be fitted though you'd be best to check the LVDS plug (pink one) on the rear of the headunit, as there are two types, one being a 4 pin connector and the other having a two pin addition on the side making it 6 pin (all E-Series CIC are 4 pin).

I owned both cars but sold the Z4 and moved to a f series M4 .
I still have the F31 tourer and assumed both the e89 and my f31 had the same idrive as it looked and performed the same .
Lo and behold, all the functions of the connected drive stopped . Checked the app last night and it’s all back up there to purchase again , which I have done.
Now need to see what re appears in the connected drive on the car .
Don’t know if this is of any use to anyone else .

The car is September 2012, and it has an nbt system not the cic,

I only quoted from information I found out, I'm in no way an expert on the F Series. BMW do sometimes change things earlier than is put out in public, so maybe that's what's happened.
