dealer servicing (stealer?)

Isn't that only in regard to new car and/or approved used warranties though?

Any extended BMW warranty is just an insurance policy and they can put whatever terms & conditions they want in there...because you have the opportunity to review them and agree/disagree with them before making the choice to purchase it (you don't have that option with a new car/AUC warranty).
Yes I think so. I was referring to manufacturers new car warranties. As you say, any aftermarket warranty is just an insurance policy and they can dictate the terms. If you break any of them, they can void the warranty. My experience of aftermarket warranties (never had an AUC one) is they are not worth the paper they are written on.

Think if I was buying a motor privately I would always be looking for full dealer history. Just shows the owner was happy spending some cash on the car than being a cheapskate.

When we are appraising trade ins, first question on the the tablet is does it have FBMW service history (if a BMW) or FSH if another make.
You can imagine the difference that makes to value.

Never had a problem with my local dealer, it's a 10 minute drive away for me and I like having a FBMWSH. I didn't get my G29 from them but they offered to check the car out for me when I picked it up.

It shouldn't make any difference. A service history is a service history and, ironically, most garages I know will do a much better service than a dealer.
Anyone can change oil and put a pollen filter in; which is about all you get for your £500 at a dealer. Of course your friendly dealer will change spark plugs for no good reason every two years, regardless of mileage, and charge handsomely for them.

I have seen many cars being sold at full "approved used" prices with virtually no SH at all, let alone a full dealer one. Dealers will include the PDI as a service; I've seen it done many times. Don't know if they are either stupid or dishonest; probably both IME.
So maybe the 'tablet' software needs tweaking?

The shock horror thing going through my mind is going full EV for my next motor 😱 The more I think about it, no oil, gear box, less moving parts, probably better refinement and reliability and less faff at the end of the day.

Is this what happens when you go over 60 years of age šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

Hope you are leasing not buying, I watched this:

It makes a huge difference, we can’t retail it as an approved used without full BMW service history, it would go to another of our branches that was not a BMW franchise.

Agree or not, the general public like full service history from the manufacturers dealerships, thus it adds value both on trade in and retail.

Would agree and why I've tended to go used approved on past second hand BMWs because you would hope the cars are genuine with a full franchise service history. Having said that when looking at used approved cars apart from the service history I've always been disappointed at the lack of forecourt prepping and really condition wise no better than any car supermarket or the like.

Might be Tim. I actually enjoyed our Automatic, Hybrid Ford Focus Hire car in NZ. What's happening to me.... :driving: ;)

I expected to pay a dealer service premium when I bought the car at 8 months old. The suggestion was that service 1 would be around Ā£250 (now quoted Ā£450) and service 2 around double that. Hence I was advised that the service plan wouldn’t be cost effective as I’d be parting with the car before service 3.

I don’t care who the provider is adding a ā€˜service charge’ to the price of a service smacks of sharp practice.

I’m heading back to ā€˜chat’ with the salesman soon…….

My Z4 is too old to go to the local main dealer, but the M440i and Mini still go to the main dealer. Service costs here are high, but the service plans are much cheaper. Eg brake fluid change at dealer £120, only £50 on the service plan. Service plan is provided by Emac, a third party with no ties to any dealership. M440i service costs came in at less than £200 per year over 5 years. Inflation protected too. Local dealer is ok but not outstanding, service plan costings came in cheaper than an indie. Mini was 5 years old before it went on to the service plan, so still worth researching if you have a G29. Food for thought.

I'm resisting:) although to be fair I've never driven full electric but think in many ways it makes sense since my mileage has dropped since retiring. But then I think wheres the fun in them.

Due to the lack of servicing required with EVs, I have heard manufacturers are installing electronics to things like brake pads to monopolise them being changed at dealers only. Makes sense, as the rip off prices of ICE servicing needs to be made up somehow.

We live in 'rip off Britain'. We NEED to be ripped off at every opportunity, or it would just feel wrong.

That's nothing new though.

E89 handbrakes seem to need software upgrades from time to time, and I'm not sure where else you can get them. Similar issue with new batteries needing coding, although that doesn't have to be by a stealer.

More than 10 years ago a VAG specialist was bemoaning the fact that you needed VAG software to get the pistons on rear brake calipers to retract so you could fit new pads.

Try the right electric car and there’s plenty of reward to be found. However, most are uninteresting white goods like the majority of ICE cars.
I love driving my wife’s Taycan, although I do risk losing my licence far more than I do when driving one of my noisy cars.
If you still have your Hyundai, you should ask your dealer for a test drive in an Ionic 5N.

Yes still have the i20N, not sure I'll ever part with it. The Ionic 5N is pretty insane, a bit pricey though but then for what you're getting performance wise. Would love to try one. Just unsure where you would use the performance on most UK roads 🫤

Always worth a watch,

I've heard Porsche are looking to adopt Hyundais simulated gearbox from the 5N šŸ™‚
