Originally guided at £2,000 - £3,000 which I suspect was reduced once they realised they couldn't operate the roof - this is a low owner low mileage car.

Bit of an odd one but the bidding is already £1,200 above the revised estimate. No V5 and it went through 2 of it's previous 3 owners in October this year but there can't be many 3.0si's available on that mileage.

Decent spec as well with the wood dash (admittedly not to everyone's taste but I like it with a beige interior) and DSP stereo.

Here's the link to tomorrow's auction if anyone fancies a go.

Also interesting the inside of the boot is soaked, when the rest of the car is dry. I guess a leak/condensation somewhere?

For me condensation in the boot shouts of a poorly kept E85 and an owner who has little knowledge of the Zed's foibles as does selling a 38k mile car through Matthewsons or indeed any auction house - I suspect it's the same reason the roof doesn't work.

I had my eye of that silver OG SAAB 9-3 and according to their website it belonged to the Bangers & Cash restoration team and sold for under £1,000 - definitely coming up in value the OG 9-3's :thumbsup:
 
It definitely looks like it hasn't been loved going by the condensation and the state of the driver's seat!

And who chose wood trim? No parking sensors, Xenons or cruise, but at least it has the upgraded stereo and heated seats. I suppose at the right price it could be turned into a good example -as Garrie said there can't be many left with less than 40K miles.
 
If it is cheap enough and is brought back up to good condition and change the wood I would have thought it could be a bit of a bargain for someone :thumbsup:
 
Very strange car that one. I wouldn't trust it one little bit.
For the mileage it looks to have had a very hard life. Probably been driven every day 'to the shops and back' in all weathers. Also looks like it has been kept out in the elements for most of it's 18 years. Dents and scrapes. Water ingress. Roof problems. Wheels are horrible. Corrosion mentioned on MOT history. One service record! Off the road for the past 18 months. What is there to like?
Failed it's MOT on an MIL recently, then passed immediately?? Someone took a fuse out??

I would bet a pound to a knob of goat s**t there are serious issues with that car.

Starting price was too low for it to be any good, and why would you sell a tatty 38k miles E85 through Mathewsons?
I could understand it if it was mint with those miles, as it could make megabucks. But it's a tired old E85 just with low miles. The MOT history is the only proof of the mileage and that isn't proof.

To be fair, there's probably a dozen reasons this car is going through auction and not all are bad. Just because the previous owner didn't know Z's also doesn't mean it's a complete basket case. Spend a couple of grand on it and you've got yourself a late(ish) manual 3.0
Current bid now at £3,400.

It can’t have only had one service since new…surely?
Servicing is expensive. The miles are low. Easily could have only had one oil change in 18 years. Another reason to give it a wide berth.
 
Also worth noting that good ole Mathewson's now charge you £5 (per person) for the privilege of going to view their cars before auction.

They say it goes to a charity of their choice (um OK. Probably Derek's multi-million pension fund). I decide what I give to which charity, not them. Cheeky bastards.
They make enough money on fees (and the TV program) without this.

I was seriously thinking of buying through them, but I will wait for what I want to come up at Anglian Car Auction in King's Lynn who don't charge for viewing and are much nearer to me anyway.

I like him although charging to view seems a bit cheeky, but maybe given how well-known they are now they may get inundated by day-trippers. If it goes to a charity that's fair enough IMO.

They will be getting well paid by the TV production company. Nothing in 'TV land' is cheap.
Derek has, apparently, one of the largest private collections of cars on the planet. He could give Jay Leno a run for his money.
And both of his 'boys' have a fair few aswell!

Not to unspecified 'charities' it isn't IMO. Remember charities pay no tax. Licence to abuse the system IMO.
Most charities give around 30% of the money the unsuspecting British public donate to 'deserving' causes. The 70% goes into 'operating costs'.

I looked into 'comic relief' once. It was an eye-opener as to how 'donations' by the (guilt-washing) public are actually used. Let's just say there is (was) a multi-million pound investment arm to comic relief, which has little to do with helping the 'needy'.

When Terry Wogan was hosting 'Children in Need' he was getting paid £250k for an evening's work. Not very charitable is it?
