Radio comes on after a few mins

I have a new behavior that’s happening on my 2006 z4 coupe. It’s a model with the factory sat nav. Radio, CD and Aux are function with controls but there’s no sound. Then after about 5 mins of driving the sound suddenly comes on. I can’t figure out if it could be a loose connection or a more serious problem. Has anyone had this issue?

If it’s the latter then the amp in the boot is maybe starting to fail or has water damage

Good question. I don’t know.
If you have storage cubbies in the bulkhead behind the front seats you've got the 6 speaker set up. Two of the extra speakers are fitted there on the 10 speaker set up.

Looks like I have the 10 speaker setup. Pulled the trunk lining out and no sign of water damage. It's the Redstar-DSP AP. I've also got the Alpine KCA-420i with the DICE iPod adapter in there too.

Looks like i'm going to need a new amp.

Well that didn't work. The issue seems to come and go. I connected up my ODB-II and found that i have the following error

DSP - 02 - Error DSP Function Right

Any other thoughts?

ACC relay or ignition switch ?
GM5 module (Body Control Module) glitch
Headunit repair (capacitors) or checking amp power feed.
bad battery

I've replaced
- the battery
- the amp
- the head unit

It's very intermittent now. But sometimes it now comes on immediately then a few seconds later the radio appears as if it powered off and I get the BMW assist on the nav display. Hit the power/volume button and it seems to turn the radio on again . Then there's no audio for a while until it seems to recover. Any more ideas?

You've seen 'Christine' right??.....

haha - that's about right.

I am now thinking it could be the GM5 module. I've noticed that the remote on the key doesn't work when the radio audio isn't working.

Well I figured it out.
  1. The GM5 Module has nothing to do with the radio, so nothing to do with the issue
  2. The radio was never at fault, nor was the amp
  3. I tried disconnecting the Bluetooth module (BMW Everest iBus module . 82.10 9120843-01) and the radio came straight on
A bit of digging led me to the SOS button. I did a scan and found an error for a short on the "breakdown circuit" and "breakdown button stuck". Put the Bluetooth model back in the car, and followed the instructions to disconnect the breakdown and SOS buttons in the center of the console (https://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1196385)

Now everything is working great!!!
