M market watch

With cars that are nearly 20 years old I will always go for condition, mileage and history over anything else. Specification is not so important. My car has absolutely no options other than a very rare interior colour, heated seats, and privacy glass. That’s it. But it’s not that it’s under spec’d. It has everythin you wish for in a sports car with that engine. Decent enough stereo (much better than my E89), the necessary safety aids but no more, 6-speed box, climate, decent electric heated seats, central locking. Frankly I don’t need anything more in a sports car like this. I did a raid trip to southern Spain in it in May with the wife. She was the sat nav, she was the PDC, and I had no need whatsoever for cruise. And, to boot, my car looks better as it has no PDC buttons around the car and no pop up screen to mar its lines. I rest my case. But I know many of you need the tech….

Ps somewhat ironically I did want a highly loaded car for my other BMWs but all were a lot newer on purchase so had low miles as a matter of course and also because none in my view are sports cars as such.

Bit of a flipper spec that one. Doesn't even have rear parking sensors.

The drivers seat bottom looks worse than mine at 80k! Lots of little journeys I would suspect which is the issue with these low milage cars. Very difficult to determine the right direction higher milage and deal with wear items or lower milage and deal with potential failures from sitting around. Either way they aren't cheap so I would probably get the low milage one and deal with those issues.

Personally im the opposite. The Z4M is a fantastic hybrid between an old school and newer tech. All the nice to haves are what I would consider need to have. Nice thing about the having the NAV etc is you can do an OE install of a CarPlay system etc

Mine has pretty much everything bar folding mirrors and glad it does or it would be more difficult to live with.

interesting - the price is keen though given miles and owner and assuming its straight
i never considered options when buying the one i just bought. i was more preoccupied with provenance and mechanical condition and bodywork
pdc would be good and i preferred non nav but id not discount on the basis of spec alone

You can’t automatically assume Tom that a car has low miles that it has lots of small journeys. Mine always do long ones (as I use them for road trips) yet they are all low mileage. In general terms you do not use these sort of BMWs for trundling to to shops as you would a Toyota aygo. Even when new so its a fallacy

Couloir combination is key and more important than spec. Munich Legends write in BMWCCGB magazine this month about the MC and the fact that it’s a steal and that colour carries it. They had a Sepang/champagne and a White/red that both sold for around £30k immediately recently.

yep that sepang / champ combo was very nice
i like imola over champ as well like the birds one
my titan silver over grey alpina b3s coupe was great mechanically but slow to sell given the colour

I bought the sepang one and sold my white one - both went within 24 hours. The social media responses on the ML posts was huge for the white one.

As for options on these cars, I personally don’t take them much into consideration, more important for me is the overall condition and mileage. I really don’t need/use cruise or pdc- on my daily which has cameras etc I still use the old method of looking. Heated seats for me are a positive as I have a bad back and I do like the electric folding mirrors, but all not deal breakers when the right cars for me come up.

Its not a big deal its an observation. Inevitably, seats and steering wheel wear is a sign of seat time, its not even just wear you can see the foam has collapsed with is pretty standard with long seat time.

I bought my M coupe in 2011 and I used it for everything because you can, dont know why everyone seems to think they are so fragile.

Yes good spot. I used a Honda NSX as a daily ago but I tend to keep the special cars like the Z4M for days when they can be experienced properly. Sadly that is becoming increasingly rare hence the trips we tajj k r to Spain

Some interesting views on specification. Being a BMW UK car mine has quite a few options which was just a nice bonus as I wasn't set on finding one like that.

I do appreciate the heated seats, and living in the South East where all Motorways have variable speed limits and are covered in cameras and many A Roads have average speed cameras I would have retrofitted Cruise if it hadn't had it!

I've found worn seat bolsters seem to be more prevalent when the owner has a larger build than us skinny folk.

My Z4MC had everything and I mean everything including the TV function, extended Amarone leather with matching dash, top Hi-Fi, cruise, folding mirrors. When I bought the Z4MR a few years later the only option it had was heated seats.

Personally I prefer the basis spec - the exterior lines look better without the sensors, the dash is uninterrupted without the SatNav and the lack of additional speakers means you don't need and excuse to turn the stereo off to listen to the engine. As for heated seats, well as some once told me, heated seats are for puffs 🤣

Terrific car! Yes flimper spec can be a turn off for some and if my car had all the toys I would have still bought it. The only things that are very slightly missed are electric folding mirrors and who doesn’t love an extended leather interior. While I love my blue/blue colour, that Grey/Amarone was to die for (was it a 3.0si?!). And I hate grey but amarone and colours like including imola that are fab. Black and champagne don’t do it for me though and I passed over several blue/black cars as they weee too regular.

Hi there

I’m looking to buy a low mileage midnight blue or black Z4M Coupe in the UK if anyone is considering selling?

I’ve seen this interlagos blue coupe which I think has been up for sale now for 18 months. It’s not my ideal colour but is obviously a good one, but over priced to my mind as it’s not super low mileage or low owners. Has anyone on here seen the car or know why it’s not sold?

Many thanks

Oh yeah, I tried using the database someone posted a while back to check the numbers of midnight blue and black cars but it seemed it no longer worked.

Anyone know of how many midnight blue and black cars are in the UK?

Cheers
