The best sports car for under £10k

I could take him more seriously if he didn't have an '80s dangly earring and wasn't a typical 'youtube' car knob.

Where were all these online 'car experts' hiding before they could make money out of 'likes'?

As for the best sportscars under £10k.......very debatable. Not least depending on your definition of a sportscar. Personally don't think any BMW can fall into this category as they're too heavy.

I enjoyed that, he's obviously a big fan although thankfully the Z4 never got the N53 engine!

Can you actually get a Cayman for £10K though?

You might be able to get a good cayman for £10k. But you can definitely get good boxsters for £10k, and they have the added advantage of being able to get the roof down!

There are different kinds of sports - just like a shot-putter and female gymnast are both equally sporty, a 6+ cylinder 1.5ton car can be equally sporty to a 0.9 ton with a 4 pot. Sport isn't just about agility, it's about power too.

Sorry but don't agree. The Germans have always been very good at making a heavy car with loads of power, and more recently trying to disguise the weight by clever engineering and electronics.
For me a 'sportscar' needs to be light and fun to drive. Nothing else. Power is irrelevant IMO.

As said, people have their own definitions of what is a sportscar. Seems if it has just two seats it is automatically a sportscar. Not in my book.

Well our cars are certainly a good deal lighter than the latest “sports cars”.
Just look at the size and weight of the latest M cars, and don’t get me started on the looks.
Then there’s the merc SL. Never really been L for a long time if ever!
It’s a real shame as cars could be so light and efficient now, with modern materials but they just get bigger and heavier, whilst our roads are getting narrower to make way for unused cycle lanes.

Yep agreed. I don't think there has been a 'proper' sportscar made in the recent past other than the MX5 (maybe the Alpine is the closest) and it will only get less likely with super heavy EVs carrying 20 tons of batteries around with them.

I was talking to a chap with a nearly new Morgan plus 4 at a car meet a while ago. A Morgan was, and is, deemed as the 'quintessential British sportscar'. His (70k cost) car has a B48 BMW engine and weighs nearly 1.2 tonnes. There is nothing of it!

Would a 2.1 tonne, £120k M5 be classed as a sportscar by some? Probably!

Out of work thespian who’s trying to be Quintin Willson and Jeremy Clarkson doing Shakespeare.
I managed his first three sentences and then turned it off. What an absolute Richard Head! Wouldn't be quite as bad if he found his own style rather than effecting a sort of gay Clarkson voice.

@enuff_zed I’m glad it wasn’t just me. Wondered if I was being grumpy! Comments were all very positive and gushing. Must of been friends and family.

Great video work and he's owned the car 3 years and put 65,000 miles on it - would rather listen to someones view with that history than someone who sounds well reading off script having been in the car for an hour.

Yeah good production values. I get that re ownership experience but just so annoying.
I gave a thumbs own and not following. Sorry!
I’m eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the S65 E86 build though!

Apart from Harry Metcalfe, I have no time for these 'youtube car experts' I'm afraid. At least Harry has nothing to prove, doesn't need the money and is a genuine car fanatic.

Most seem to be 'trust fund' over-privileged knobs from the home counties who can't be arsed to do a proper job.

Agreed, I like Harry also some of his old team, Henry Catchpole and Chris Harris.
I also like Joe Achilles who used to frequent the baby bmw forum in a previous life.

Surely it's the effect that weight has that is the point, not the weight itself? Unless we're just playing top trumps.

If technology mitigates the effect of the weight, then a heavier car can have all the same qualities of a lighter car.

What's the heaviest that a sports car can be, and why?

Why, in the first sentence did he have to splash a swear word all over us?
That kind of shock value seems a bit dated now.
Like Pondrew, I found the ear ring a bit distracting.
But I suppose all these things would be ironed out in professional TV, along with using reflectors when shooting against the sun.
He reminded me a bit of Richard E. Grant in Withnail & I.
If he'd have "rocked up" in Penrith and caused a bit of chaos in a tea room, it might have made a more interesting video i.m.h.o. :).
