I understand that and that’s why I’m looking for the new owner, but would be nice to get John’s help as he’ll know who he sold it to. Somebody on the forum did also express interest in the car so could be a forum member.
I can understand the frustration and only you and John know what the agreement was.
All I would say is this doesn't sound like John, from my experience of him on the forum over the past years. He has always come across as being of high morals and vocal about 'doing the right thing'.
It looks like the new owner is @jaybeetooblue but he doesn't frequent the forum much at all and can't respond to a PM as he doesn't have enough posts (5).

I couldn’t agree more having met him that day. Hence why we had absolutely no concerns in letting the car go. Like I say, if he’s genuinely forgotten, I understand. I just find the no contact really frustrating when he could just hold his hands up, say the car is gone and help us locate the owner. There’s only a slight chance of getting it back, I realise that, but it means a lot to me for various reasons and I have to try my best.

What was wrong with the car anyway? Four different owners in the last year... sounds like a game of broken-car musical chairs!
After many z4s, he’s now after a Fiat 124 Spider.
Mechanically, the car was excellent. We just ordered a work car that came sooner than anticipated and with 2 young girls, it was wasted on us really. It was PVR’s car previously and it was very well looked after.
Not sure why it was sold on so soon after but I think John had a few cars.

Clearly John (whoever he may actually be) knows absolutely what he has done wrong, his silence is deafening!
He has just sold some side skirts for circa £1000 on here so will have been on here a lot over the past few days.
He must either be conjuring up some story or will never be seen again on here.
I will certainly steer clear of anything relating to him.

I’m so sorry for this utter balls up, not intentional, I’ve never had a private plate and have no real understanding of the transfer process etc, never had any interest in them.
I’ll contact the new owner who will be fine to hand the plate back I’m sure, if not I’ll buy it back for you.

As a side note I only sold it when my son got a place at York uni so the funds have gone to him to get him on his way. It’s a shame but I’ve got wayyyyy too many cars so something had to go….

There’s no hard feelings at all, we’ve just been struggling to get in touch and thought contact through the forum was the best way to reach you, but it was honestly a last resort.
If you could please contact the new owner and let them know the car shouldn’t have been sold with the private plate, that would be massively appreciated. As explained above, it means nothing to anyone else but it does to me as it was a gift from my parents a long time ago.

When I got mine from you Garrie it was similar, you couldn't sort the plate online...so had to trust me! It did cost me though as having the private plate on the car for a few weeks made me want one for it!Had exactly the same issue when I sold my first E89 on the forum.
I let it go to a forum member with the private reg still on it to not hold up the sale - never thought it would be an issue but I never saw the reg again and the member has long since stopped frequenting the forum.
Lesson learned

John is one of the 'good guys', despite what could easily mistakenly be construed from this thread.
