A traditonal NC500 clockwise trip with the added joy of a few of the favourite hinterland roads on the final day.

Staying at some of our favourite hotels in Conon, Ullapool, Halkirk.

Starting from the Central Belt there and back.

6 cars max.

There's a hefty 50% deposit up front on some of the rooms (refundable to late on).

Room rates are in the £125 ish per night.

As ususal first come first served.

Please note this is first and foremost a driving trip with typically 175-200 miles and 5 hours ish of driving a day at a fairly brisk (by some folks views) pace.

Leave by 09:30 each day and plan to arrive before 5 pm each day.

A few stops for coffee and lunch etc but its not a generic site seeing tour!

If you've not been out one of these trips consider going on a day trip first to see if it's for you.

I'm very interested in doing the route clockwise, but I'm struggling with the route maps. It looks like Day 1 is Conon Bridge to Ullapool, Day 2 to Halkirk, Day 3 to Dingwall, Day 4 to Edinburgh but Day 5 starts from Conon Bridge then goes to Balloch.

You never stood a chance with a jigsaw…

Day 1 upto Dingwall starting around Edinburgh ish

Day 2 Dingwall to Ullapool via Applecross

Day 3 Ullapool to Halkirk aka Thurso

Day 4 Halkirk via maybe John o Groats to Dingwall via the hinterland

Day 5 Dingwall to Central belt via yet another different route..

Interested, put us down for it please. Slight chance I might be solo travelling, but lets work on the basis we're both going for now.

Phew, very interested to represent more E89 on this trip, but it's a 1,800 km / >1,100 mile journey to get to the starting point.

Are winter tires recommended at this time of year? Since I've upgraded my front brakes, I don't currently have a second set of 19-inch rims. :D

Generally, I'd prefer to do this trip earlier in the year so I can have the roof open the whole time. :D

Sadly this trip is now full unless someone drops out once we start putting the deposits down…maybe in 2027 with us?😥😳🙏

In the UK even in Scotland the season for winter or all season tyres is short.

Problem specifically with winter tyres is we often get quite warm days in autumn / winter / spring…I know from personal experience that tyre wear on winters then can be very rapid..like a mm a day..

So all season are the best choice but with my two other cars I don’t fit them till end of November and remove them in March..

Well, here in Munich I've never put winter tires on my Z4 in the last ten years. Nevertheless, I did buy a set in the first few days, but sold them again last year when I upgraded the brakes. :-)
