On 25th September 1985 yours truly past his driving test, first time of course! :)

I remember it like it was yesterday. 11.00am test, weather was overcast but dry, the examiner was called Peter and I drove a Mk11 Fiesta pop plus in powder blue. Test was taken in High Wycombe, which if anyone knows it, is surrounded by very steep hills that made it challenging.

Now I live the the fens which is as flat as a witch's tit, at least I don't have to do hill starts anymore.

I have driven a car almost every day since and am still not very good!

I had a 1.1L Mk 1 Fiesta, was the Mk 11 much of an upgrade?
The double mini roundabout directly outside the test centre in HW was the undoing of many a young driver setting out on their test. Of course, I passed first time too, but it was quite some years after you.

At the junction of Desborough Road and Desborough Avenue? I just checked and the driving test centre has moved to Loudwater now and the old driving test centre is a pharmacy. The car park is now a Lidl.
I haven't been into Wycombe in years (thank God).

I passed my test in a red 1.0 Nissan Micra (driving instructors car) I had a fully souped-up 1300 Mini waiting for me at home :devilish:, Webber carbs/ race clutch / external oil and water cooler / halogen lights / Recaro seats / harnesses / roll cage. Painted in candy apple red with a big white Cooper stripe sprayed over it. Went to pick my mum up from work and she swore she would never get in a car with me again! It didn't have a choke, it wheel span in 1st/2nd/3rd gear and I use to get pulled by the police constantly in it, mental little car.

Being somewhat older I'll have my Golden Anniversary on 30 June next year.

Also passed first time of course, but in a Mk1 Escort 1300XL as Fiestas hadn't been invented!

The one I drove was sort of French Navy Blue. It was probably a bargain as it was a run-out MK1 registered in late 73 or early 74.

After dinner I took my Mum's Fiat 127 out, piled a few mates in and went for a drive that involved a stop at a chippy. Happy days. :D

I passed in the instructor’s Vauxhall Nova. I bought my Mk I Fiesta a few days later. It was very old and very rotten and fairly soon it was very upside down on a single track road.

At the junction of Desborough Road and Desborough Avenue?
That’s the one. That pair of roundabouts and the huge roundabout with traffic lights at the top of Marlow Hill were where my any of my mates came a cropper during their tests.

Same for me, an orange Escort 1300XL, back in Campbelltown, NSW, in 1973.
Are you still in Campbelltown? If so, you might spot me in my Zed or a very noisy Exige on the Narellan Road between the M31 and the hospitals.

I used to work about 100 yards from the two mini roundabouts (just off Desborough Road) and my school was 100 yards from the big roundabout at the top of Marlow Hill (the M40 J4 one).

May 1978 for me, had an infamous examiner called 'Failer Finley' but passed first time. :)
Took the test in my dads 1.8 Austin Maxi

Yeah, now you mention it I remember that. :) Awful gearbox, Engaging 1st was a challenge as well
