When I turn off the engine I've started getting a yellow oil symbol accompanied with a single beep... Probably a silly question but what does this mean?

I'm sure the oil was in the middle when I checked it couple weeks back. Will check it tomorrow but could it mean anything else?

Thanks.

Low oil indeed.

Did you check the oil when hot last time?

just shove a litre in it, thats what I have always done, after carefully measuring and making sure I wasn't overfilling a litre bottle is precisely the right amount :)

Digging up this old thread.... I have this exact issue. I have checked the oil dozens of times using the dipstick - the level is fine, but the car keeps telling me otherwise. Irritating! I assume there is a sensor somewhere that is either unhappy or broken? Or could this a sign of something more alarming?? The car runs fine, no codes on the OBD. 2003 M54b30.

Any advice please?

I have this despite the oil being in the correct place on the dipstick. After the last service it stopped, the oil on the dipstick was very high but now it’s back again. The dipstick reads as shown many times on here and in the book. Worried about over filling but I just keep adding until it stops beeping.

I think I’ll just top it up and keep it towards Max rather than middle - which I’ve been aiming for. Hopefully that will do the job.

I guess my anxiety is that it might be related to oil pressure rather than just oil volume. Does anyone know?

…and keep in 1lt top up bottle in the boot in the nice bmw caddy.😊
