My G29 M40i Build

I’ve own my G29 for what will be 2 years in September. I was lucky to be in a position to buy new and I spec’ed a build slot and the long four months waiting for it to arrived started. We picked it up on 1/9/23. It’s been my daily throughout that time and I’ve covered 36k miles so far. Loved every minute of it.

Over the last six months I’ve been debating whether to keep it or try and get one of the last build slots for a Q1 2026 delivery. Sensibly I’ve decided to keep it and I’m fortunate that I can have a car through work so this will shortly become a garage queen.

So, I’ve always thought the car was pretty much there, but was missing that last 5% to make it in my eyes perfect.

I’ve always thought the following (other views are available but these are mine)

Slightly under wheeled for a M car.
Slightly sitting to high (common, just look at the M2)
Needed a bit more noise, but not excessive.
Lacked a bit of purpose in looks especially from the front and sides.

I’ve also thought if BMW were to build a Z4M G29 what would it look like.

My aim with the build below is to add that 5% making it OEM+ using parts closely affiliated to BMW’s heritage which is why gone the AC Schnitzer route for what I’m looking for.

So far the following has been added. All by ACS. expensive but you definitely get what you pay for. For example for the body work they use all the original mounting point with stainless steel screws.

ACS4 bicolour 20” alloys with PS4’s 8.5 front and 9 on the rear. So running the original tyre widths
ACS back box with carbon tips
ACS side skirts painted in BMW gloss black
ACS front splitter. Accents and centre support painted in body colour. Lower lip painted in BMW gloss black
ACS lowing springs. 20mm drop.

Small details

M performance carbon filler cap
M performance door pins
Red starter button

Couple of photos. As you can tell I’m not the best photographer.

So far I’m really pleased how it’s turned out and I’m glad I decided to keep it and make more “mine”.

Next I’m thinking. Black wing mirror caps and painting the rear defuser in the same gloss black. Then things like AC steering wheel, metal pedals and I drive wheel.

Thanks for looking. Comments, future modification ideas are welcome.

Be kind if it’s not for you.

Like the new front splitter and the back box looks really good, I'm not warming to the wheels sorry, 20" are too much alloy not enough tyre, combined with the 20mm it looks slammed.

Very nice. I agree the car seems under-wheeled now I have had mine for nearly 3 years. Did you consider the ACS engine performance upgrade too ? I keep thinking about that for mine because it allows me to keep the warranty, but I'm not sure I can justify the cost compared to a standard stage 1 ECU tune. Maybe I will wait until my car can't have a BMW warranty at 10 years old, then do whatever then.

For me it’s too expensive for what it is. Theres been one for sale on eBay for a while and im still not tempted at that price.

I might consider more power once it’s out of warranty next September.

What I’m considering next in no particular order is the following

Paint the rear defuser gloss black.
Paint the outer rim of the front grill gloss black.
M2/M4 LCI flat bottom steering wheel. Bespoke materials and stitching etc.
ACS metal pedal set included foot rest.
ACS metal Idrive wheel.

All above this winter, maybe’s below

Some form of enclosed induction kit. Eventuri possibly. But again once out of warranty.
Boot spoiler when I can find one I like. This I’m unsure about as I like the boot shape at the moment.

Far fetched ideas

M2/M4 carbon front seats retrimmed in current colour.
S58 engine transplant (getting silly now)

Nice looking car especially the colour. Think it would look better in a frozen finish but I may be being biased

Added the slant black grill to complete the look at the front. Getting the rear diffuser painted gloss back will the be the last change I’ll do to the exterior as I can’t find a spoiler that I like to complement the original design.

Looks great Andy!

I love all the changes you've made, except for the mirror caps as I feel that design should only be on true M cars, but just my opinion. I'd like to change mine to carbon at some stage.

Does the new back box make the sound much more prominent/louder? Also, can it be fitted with the standard rear diffuser or does it need changing to fit the quad tips?

Also, what is an M performance door pin?

Thank you for your comments. i would describe the back box as being 10% louder than standard and doesn’t drone in the cabin with the roof up or down. At cruising speeds in comfort mode you wouldn’t know it was there. I’m told it quieter than the Remus equivalent system.

It can be fitted to the standard m40 diffuser without any modifications. You have to cut the original exhaust and slip it on. Takes about half an hour on a ramp.

The M performance door pin replaces the original bland one in the top of the door card. Picture below.

This winters project was to get the paint sorted. So I’ve removed the old ceramic coating that I applied to the car when it was new and machine polished the paint. Just the coatings to reapply and it’s done.

Car is looking good, I like the mirror caps, I think they are more suited to the sharp angular lines of the car and easy to swap also.
