Proactive 'roof stuck' trunk release mod
I see a lot of posts with roofs getting stuck in the down position, or halfway down. Doing a simple mod NOW will help you 1. Get your car home safely, and 2. Make the repair much easier.
Stop the roof halfway so the trunk is open, and then remove the boot liner by popping out the plastic clips. Locate the white nylon boot release latch, circled in red. Attach some braided wire to it, route it so it follows the motion of the latch, and leave a tail long enough that you can reach it from the cabin, through the ski hatch. You could use some velcro to hold it nearby.
This will allow you to pull it and pop the trunk even if the car computer won't let you.
Next, be sure you carry a hex driver / allen key in your glovebox to release the hydraulic pressure valves on the pump in the trunk. Once the pressure is relieved, you can manually lift/push the roof closed, and use the button to activate the locks to hold it in place.
This mod takes about an hour and will save you a lot of pain one day!
