G29 Z4 M Sport LSD – Is a partial diff oil change worth it?

Guys, my G29 Z4 is approaching 50k miles and I questioned my dealer about differential oil changes. BMW claims “lifetime,” but I know better.

The diff has no drain plug, thus they must remove the whole unit to drain it, which costs nearly 5x more. Instead, they offered me a "partial fluid change," removing most of the fluid without removing the diff.

I chose the partial change since some fresh fluid is better than none. Is this common for the M Sport LSD, and is a partial diff oil change effective?

bmwmanuals.net service and maintenence manuals for most models including M40
Costs a princely 16€

Details changing diff oil , a simple oil pump is needed as for many gearbox applications

Yes and yes

When mine hit around 55k, I had the same debate with my service guy and ended up going with the partial change too since the full drain meant pulling the diff and the cost was just ridiculous. I figured some fresh fluid is better than running the original stuff forever, and honestly the car’s been fine ever since. I don’t track it, just spirited drives here and there, and I haven’t noticed any noises or issues, so I think it’s a decent compromise unless you’re really pushing the car hard all the time.
