$3600 to fix transmission leak. Am I being ripped off? What should be the average cost?

Unfortunately about 70% of the cost is labour with a time of nearly 13hrs, so unless you can find a reliable garage/shop that is prepared to charge less hours/rate then I don’t think you would get it much cheaper, I think labour rates are quite high in the states compared to the UK, although still expensive, the DCT box also needs expensive oil and refilling needs to be done with the car plugged into software to get the correct level.
You really need to get a few more quotes.

If the box needs to be dropped to get access to those covers thrn yes those prices are in the appropriate ball park…as Chippie said you could shop around but it’s not going to be dramatically cheaper elsewhere…

I assume there must be some faults for them to specify some of the parts…

I presume looking at the paperwork that you went in to have the rocker cover gasket replaced and the garage/shop advised you that the gearbox has a leak and quoted for the work detailed?

100% your getting taken for a ride here (in my opinion). No way it costs $1640 for a R&R of a valve cover gasket. I just did mine a couple months back in my own garage.... parts (VC, new aluminum bolts, gasket) were about $250 and it took me about 2 hours to complete taking my time.

I'd get some concrete evidence of where the Transmission leak is coming from. Is it from the pan, ? Filter? Sensor on top? all of those are pretty simple talks to complete.

I just did a complete service on my DCT as well and again, parts were about $400 and another 2 hours taking my time.

I get not everyone is a DIY'er, but that's robbery in my book.....

Did you need to use the fill procedure in ISTA?

YES YOU ARE - firstly a DCT does not have a torque converter so why a torque converter seal??
I am in UK, last time I had my sump off, (2021) all filters etc and oil changed in it came in around £600 with my local indy dealer , including parts, oil and labour.
Most of the things on the invoice are not needed for a simple sump pan leak, basically, new pan, gasket, two internal filters, maybe one oring at the top and the oil...

I didn't use the full ISTA procedure as I don't have it. I measured what came out, I then measured what went back in and then filled until it wouldn't take any more. I buttoned it up, started it and ran in gear for a bit and then topped up. I was still about a 1/2 Qt low from what I measured coming out.

From there I used gravity by jacking up one side of the car higher than normal (keeping an eye one on the rims fro the low side) and then cracked open the plug and was able to get the rest in.

Unconventional, but effective ... no issues at all
