Seeking advice, please, concerning the likely difference in the Z4 35is - was there an upgraded version created circa 2013

B21, thank you for the provision of further information which is much appreciated.

As a matter of further interest on the basis of the degree of omniscience you possess concerning the E89 BMW Z4 35is and in the light of this would you be able to advise me, please, total number of the aforementioned machines that were imported into this realm?

john-e89, It is with much regret that I am obliged to inform you that I have reported your Post to the management of this Forum on the basis that it is impolite and wholly unnecessary and should be removed.

B21, thank you for providing the information in regards to the'How Many Left' web site which is something that until now I was wholly unaware

John-e89, I am so sorry to trouble you, but yet again it has been necessary to seek recourse to the management of this Forum to request that your impolite Post is removed. I should be most appreciative were you to desist in placing such posts.

I have yet to receive responses concerning whether there is any disparity betwixt the wheels on the BMW E89 Z4 35i and the BMW E89 Z4 35is. The reason for which is because I wish to make absolutely certain that the Melbourne Red machine has the correct wheels fitted.
I don't know the specific details, but I know that while most of both models seem to have come with 19" wheels at least one Melbourne Red 35is had 18" style 295s - because I bought them when the owner replaced them with Style 230 19s. :D

There is no need to find an emissary to post photographic embellishments, simply move your ocular input to the bottom left of your posting input and there will be a button entitled "Attach files". A click on that allows you so select the desired file(s).

Mr. Tidy, Thank you for your kind response along with your advice concerning the installation of photo-images which I hope to use to advantage when the new-to-me machine arrives.

B21, thank you for providing the information concerning 'How Many Left' from which it would seem there are approximately four hundred and twenty extant BMW Z4 35is's albeit that forty or so are SORNed

FWIW 35is in Europe came with 18” or 19”….mine had 18” on it ..

Yeah yeah yeah…bite me….😆

john-e89, I suspect that were I to behave in the most reprehensible manner in which you are doing it is likely you may seek to have me banned from the Forum. For myself, I do find it most interesting that you should behave in this most unsatisfactory manner which essentially is impolite and holds the potential of placing you in a rather dim light in the eyes of other members of the Forum. You may recollect that a few years ago I was banned for life from this Forum and yet I had done nothing wrong, other than write in what may be perceived by some as a little unusual. However, I shall continue to do so and have absolutely no intention of resorting to abject monosyllabacism and thus fall victim to those who wish to pillory me for no other reason than I have the ability to write in a well defined and clear cut manner thus to convey precisely that which I wish to illustrate within the written word. So please, will you kindly desist in attacking me with puerile and monosyllabic statements. It is not in my nature to ignore people, therefore, if you continue to behave in a manner which appears to me as unsatisfactory, I shall then avoid you. With best wishes, Z4-MAD

B21, having on a number of occasions viewed the Youtube video of Matthew Prior from Autocar magazine within which he most emphatically states that it is best to avoid the nineteen inch wheels but have the eighteen inch wheels which he states provides a far superior ride. For myself, when I was a passenger in the E89 BMW 35is of recent times which has nineteen inch wheels the ride seems perfectly satisfactory and not at all harsh.

You do know you’ve just said out loud you were banned for life right…?? 🤣🤣

john-e89, yes it is quite perfectly true that I was banned for life. This notwithstanding, I was recently provided with a special dispensation to return to this most illustrious of forums thus to provide a modest degree of ejumikation thus to reduce the aspect of some posters utilising a rather disconcerting degree of monosyllabacism loyk wot I dont do. I am pleased we have remained friends.

Night, night and only five days hence when the Child of Vulcan the God of Fire arrives. I do hope it has the proper paddle shift levers appended to the steering wheel.

For the attention of all contributors to this thread of enquiry:

I am presently turning cartwheels with glee within the certain confirmatory knowledge that the Red Devil - Child of Vulcan the God of Fire is fitted with the all present and correct paddle shift gear changing devices,... Hip, hip, hooray!

All that now remains is my request that all the most helpful contributors to this thread should accept My Very Best Thanks for the most kind and generous support they have so generously and indeed altruistically provided.

With best wishes from,

MAD

So…

Ride comfort

Key variables

Tyre construction

Sidewall height

External factors

Early runflat tyres as fitted to the E89 all its life were primitive designs with very hard sidewalls necessary as part of the run flat architecture…irrespective of the sidewall height they gave a very very bad ride…almost any modern non run flat will be markedly better ..some later run flat designs are better but still not as good as anon run flat..

Sidewall height

The height of the sidewall has a direct non linear impact on ride comfort..the taller the side wall the better the ride comfort…sidewall height is a function if tyre width and aspect ratio on high performance tyres…E89s need the same rolling radius on tyres whether they are 17/18/19 to preserve speedo accuracy…so 17 have mid ratio profiles on a 17” rim typically 45/40 whereas a 19’ rim has 35/30…for the same width of tyre the higher profile give greater side wall height..softer ride…the other ootion is to say change from a 35/30 profile on a 19’ to 40/35 ie same as 18” wheel…if you have different width alloys that support wide rims then that has a small impact in improving side wall height hence ride comfort..

External factors are the dampers, quality and aggressiveness of compression and rebound damping and length of suspension travel…so a long travel well damped Ohlins softly sprung will do much much better than a tired short travel original MSport spring and damper..

Obviously the type of road surfaces and the speed encountered has a major effect on the perception of ride comfort..

Finally perception based on comparative cars shape people’s views..almost any E89 is seen as softly suspended and more comfortable than E85s as they have shorter travel, typically older suspension components..

For those readings there are often contradictory statements made

Can I please ask that those of you who obviously don’t get along use the ignore feature of the forum. I have a lot going on right now and don’t have the time to be tidying up forum posts.

It’s not just about you two, all this baiting and sniping is not a good look for the forum and hardly encourages new members.

Thanks

It makes the forum a lot more interesting than it has been of late, though, Jim.

If people just take it as it is and chill out a bit, it is all harmless IMHO.

I remember you @Z4MAD from last time.
I thought you were hilarious, albeit a bit strange. Carry on, son, the forum needs a bit of a lift at the moment IMO.
I did think you were banned permanently, though.
