Thoughts on this one?

Been after a Z4MC for a few months now on and off. This one has recently appeared and has seriously tempted me -

Mileage is quite high but it seems to have had all the major maintenance work done (rod bearings, Vanos, inspection 2) and looks in good condition.

Anyone on this forum own / know much about it?

Thank you.

I don't know the car but it looks OK in the photos and as you say it's had some of the expensive jobs done quite recently. I can't read the invoices but I'd want to be sure it had new engine mounts fitted when the bearing shells were replaced as mine were shagged at 78K miles.

Haven't read the MOT history but the price seems a bit strong for a private sale IMHO.

82k miles and thats a concern for ‘being high’? Jeez that’s nothing on a 19 year old car…🤣

Get it bought!!

The missing M steering wheel triggers my OCD.
I'd be happier seeing some paperwork to backup the Dealership history as they look like recreations.
None of it deal breaking in my opinion if you like it.

Haha - I hadn't noticed the steering wheel. Random item to have changed out. Good spot.

MOT failures in the past mostly tyre wear, disks and pads. Nothing major. 82k miles but average of 2000 to 3000 per year since 2017 seems reasonable. Very 2nd car mileage.

Wondering if any ex owners / current owner are on here.

TBF it looks like an M wheel to me just with the wrong covers for the buttons, unless I missed something?

You say nothing major on the MOT failures, but fails for brakes and especially tyres suggests to me less than fastidious ownership. And according to the book it has gone more than 2 years between services a few times. While I wouldn't be put off by that, it's a haggling tool.

The end of the description basically says you can get it for just over £16.5k.
Don't know if that's high or not TBH, but it's a figure to work to.

The steering wheel trim being wrong and a very unusual part to change, and a previous MOT failure for an air bag warning, would have me questioning if the airbags had previously been deployed.

The seller has already reduced his price from £18k.

The airbag warning light was probably a module failure, quite common. The owner should have a receipt for the correction work. It may have been an accident where the owner had third-party insurance and had the car repaired at their own cost. But I think this is unlikely. Presenting a car for an MOT with the airbag light on is not exactly a wise thing to do. The wear on the front tyre suggests a tracking problem, which may need a closer look.

It looks like the correct steering wheel to me??

A genuine M steering wheel has red and blue stitching. Pic of mine for reference.

That car has an MSport trimmed wheel from a post 2006 (non M) with black stitching. To add to the confusion it has the trim from a pre-facelift wheel.

Looks like it has a story to tell, if you like the like of the car it could still be worth letting the seller have the chance to explain.

So it does!

Although I've now noticed that there are two sets of photos. One from a multi story and one outside on a road.
The later set really looks like black stitching. The wheel imprint shows where the original trim was as well.

OP.. if you go see it we need a definitive answer :)

Thanks for the feedback all. Much appreciated. Interesting to see that it was for sale at £14999 less than a year ago.

Will have to get out and go look at it.
