Transmission light on cold start

Hi Guys!

I have an E85 3.0l auto from 2003 most cold starts I do (but not every) the transmission light comes on if I then turn car off and on it dissapears and wont come on again until another cold start.

Anyone any idea what the cause could be? I was thinking maybe a sensor or needing new transmission fluid. Ive not managed code read yet as it only comes on in morning when im off in a rush but I will do!

Thanks In advance.

Does it have any other symptoms? Does it go into 'R' or 'D' correctly? Does it drive correctly when the light is on? Sounds like a very similar problem to mine at the moment that is getting more frequent - I am led to believe it is the Gear Position Switch.

Absolutely No Symptoms it gets into every gear fine. I was thinking it may have been the transmission oil running low so it came on at first and thats why it goes off straight after a cold start.

I got a code reader and it does say gear switch however with code P0705.

Have you had a look into how its changed, is it a simple enough job? I managed to get the part number of 24107507818 which I'm only finding £200-£300 parts

Yeah, I'm in the same boat of whether I replace it. It's a steep price if it doesn't solve my issue, but logic suggests it is that sensor for me.
I have heard it just unscrews from the side of the gearbox and has an electrical connector, too. But nothing concrete to know for sure yet.
