Cruise Control not engaging

Hi all,
I am new to this after recently purchasing an E89 35i. Lovely car to be fair but I have an issue you all might be able to help with.
When driving and want to use the cruise control, I use the stalk as directed and the symbol appears in the window that shows its on but when I try to set the speed nothing happens. I have read that a little light should ping around the speedo but nothing. Has anyone has any similar issues?

So the semi-circle with the speed appears, in between the speedo and rev counter, when you press the CC stalk away from you when you've got to the speed you want! That's the CC set. You may have Green and Red LED's around the outer edge of the speedo (Green = CC currently set and active, Red = CC set but not currently active), that means it's OEM, or if no LED's then it's been retrofitted.

So what's actually not happening? What are you getting when pressing the stalk? And then what are you doing to try to change it?

The first bit you mentioned is correct. The semi circle comes on the dash but when I push the stalk away, nothing happens. The semi circle symbol just disappears.
I will take a video in the morning.

Hopefully you can see the video. It's a bit shaky as I was driving. As you can see. The symbol comes up but no light around the speedo as you mentioned

Realised pictures wont help that much but like I said. The symbol come up but when I try to set the speed, nothing happens.

That is exactly how I'd expect to see it at 0mph.
The chances are, as you say there are no LED's around the outside of the speedo while attempting this while driving could be because it's been retrofitted (possibly by me!!).
If, while above 20mph, and you press the CC stalk you are not getting a number within that semi-circle then it "may" be faulty, but normally when there is fault with CC it will be displayed as such.
Possibly need the fault codes checked.
I've attached screenshots of the Owners manual instructions, just in case and for clarity.
