I'd say you weren't trying hard enough!

Seriously though 38mpg is impressive for a straight 6. My E86s averaged between 32 and 34 over the 22K miles I did in them.
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

Sounds alright to me. We never got more than that average in both 2 litre N20 blown E89s.
My brand new Audi (mild hybrid thingy with an extra battery) petrol won't do over 40 mpg no matter how nice you are to it.

My B48 320i did about 38 mpg aswell.

Best BMW I had for mileage was a 360bhp/ 600nm mapped B58 believe it or not. I could get 55mpg on a motorway run, in a nearly 2 tonne F33. Those engines are awesome.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

2024 Audi A4 avant 40 black edition petrol
2025 Ford Focus ST 'track pack'. Go-kart with sat nav.
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half.
No Z4 anymore!

I get at least 38mpg in my 2.5si going from here to Cardiff on the motorway, mostly on cruise and running about 70. If I drop down to low/mid 60s I'll get just the other side of 40.

Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?

is that what the car said it was doing? I had a 220 mile run out at the weekend, brimmed before I went and brimmed after - car said 38MPG but doing the manual calculation was closer to 32MPG - still not bad though .

My 2.2 gets around 29 to 31 but it is mostly short trips over the moors and 99% with the roof down. So more drag = more fuel I suppose.
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.
