Roof not working

Post by Ace Rimmer » Thu Mar 20, 2025 5:40 pm

Hi all

I have had my Zed for a little over a month, the roof has been working fine.

I got in it tonight coming home from work, went to lower the roof and nothing happened....
The only thing that has changed, since I last had it down is that I have set up my driver profile.
The mirrors, door locks, sat nav preferences all reset, would this have also affected the roof operation?

I'm stumped...

Were you using the button in the car or the external opening with the key fob button ?

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Roof not working

I had a similar problem, my car refused to unlock with the remote fob.

Phoned BMW, they were pretty useless, they offered to sell me a new fob battery for £45!

After posting on here Argyll Andy suggested trying the app to unlock, which worked a treat. Had no further problems since (touch wood).

Thanks Dr John.
I don't know what's going on with it.
Wouldn't work again tonight on the way home.
Parked up at home and still nothing.
Switched off went in for 10 minutes then went back and tried again and it works.

I closed it up and went to drop it again, nothing....
It seems very intermittent and I get no error messages on the dash.

Roof not working

Post by Ace Rimmer » Sat Jun 14, 2025 10:41 am

Got my roof fixed, finally....
It was the switch.

When the car was delivered it was not in a good state, it was filthy and the interior wasn't nice either.
In particular the area where the trays are in the front was gunked up and sticky.

After a bit of back n forth with the company I got it from, they coughed up for a full detail and interior valet.

Anyway after the roof problems continued i contacted them again, to make a claim on the warranty, they sent a mobile mechanic who diagnosed a window position sensor issue that he could not fix. So it was booked in with Williams Rochdale (who were excellent BTW).
They checked the car and said that it wasn't the sensors, it looked like a drink had been spilled in the front area and this had got into the switches.

All fixed under warranty.
