BMW E90 date frozen?

Post by x-driver » Tue Oct 08, 2024 10:05 pm

On 30 April the e90 had a "minor" crash. It was hit in its front left wheel. The damage was on FL suspension, the wing (just outer part, the interior frame was ok), the front left door was a little bent, the mirror had its cover damaged, front bumper broke just in the corner where it meets with the wing at the wheel arch, and the wheel arch cover was broken.
The headlight seemed untouched, no airbags were deployed, I think even the engine did not turn off at the time of the crash. The car was basically stationary when it was hit by a van from the side.

So nothing really that bad. However it took until today that the car was repaired, because of arguing with insurance company and mostly due to lack of time of the mechanic at whom the car was parked the whole time.

He surely disconnected the battery when he replaced the door (airbag), but that was some time recently. I don't know whether the whole time the battery was connected or not (will ask). I know he moved the car several times during the summer.

Today the car was finally finished and we took it home. During the drive we spotted that the date shown on the iDrive screen was 30 April. And the clock was wrong.

How is that possible? :scratchhead:

My E90 doesn't have i-drive but after having a new battery fitted the average speed and fuel consumption on the OBC had both reset to zero, so I suspect a flat or disconnected battery may be why you've lost the date and time.

Can't you just reset them?

Haven't tried yet. But the thing is, the date wasn't lost (--.--.2024), it shows the date of the crash. I'm curious what it will show tomorrow.

Today the date was still the same. There was however a warning that the battery was disconnected and that the clock and date need to be reset. Still no clue why the date was stuck to 30 April. Perhaps the battery was disconnected that day for the first time and then the date was never set back again until today.

It's a 2000s BMW - their electrics seem to have a mind of their own if the battery gets low or is disconnected.

You may be confusing your car with Linda Blair. She definitely got possessed :D
