New car day

Post by True-Blue » Thu Sep 12, 2024 10:08 am

On the train as it’s new car day.

Been looking at 718’s and settled on a low Mileage, 2 owner, Boxster 2.0t PDK. Was open to Cayman and Boxster, but this car ticked many of my Boxes.

The Porsche lot are a funny old bunch though, apparently the 2.0 flat 4 Turbo is slow and unresponsive?? Terrible to drive, no better than a golf! The list of ‘must have’ extras is ridiculous too, can’t buy one without the in-car popcorn maker!

It’ll do 0-62 in 4.9 and 0-100 in circa 10, slow it most certainly is not. “But it’s not flat 6, a 3.4 is better” (the 3.4 is Slower, has less torque and is less fuel efficient) - I concede that it does sound better.

I suspect that the vast majority of the ‘Porscheista’ have never sat in 4cyl 718 let alone driven one.

Anyway, can’t beat the straight 6, I’ll take the Alpina out if I just want to listen to the engine!

Had a 718 for three years, heard the same crap on the forums though mainly the noise difference. My answer was Susan Boyle sounds far better than posh spice, but which one would you rather be seen in.

They are utterly fantastic cars, the handling is simply incredible.
Abstinence is fine, in moderation.

I remember taking the train up to Edinburgh to collect my 987.2, such a nice day! Hoping it all goes well.

Ah the Porsche lot can be funny but it will be plenty fast with just the right amount of mod cons! If it’s from a Porsche dealer see if they can give you a half track day included.

Oh and photos please!!!

Try the Aston Martin forums....they all think they are some kind of 'higher human race' than the mere mortals.
I noticed there was a lot of talk of 'charity events' for them to give something back to the 'poor people' (and to show off how rich they were). Pretentious w*****s. :D
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

2025 Ford Focus ST 'track pack'. Go-kart with sat nav.
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half.
No Z4 anymore!

Well done! I had a 4 cylinder 718 and never had any complaints about the engine noise. The performance as you say is excellent. Really look forward to seeing some pics and yes the Porsche lot can be strange. Are you buying from an OPC, specialist or privately?

Thanks for all the replies all, and kind wishes.

It’s a private purchase, but with about 10 months transferable OPC warranty.

Bit of a nightmare journey home, as loads of road closures meant an extra 90 mins or so… thankfully cross country though :driving:

I’ll add some pics in the next couple of days, but I love it already

Yup, I am lucky enough to have both. Love my mapped N20 for performance, but oh how much better it would be with the M54 2.2 daily's soundtrack.

Cue the obvious comments about mugs and Porsche owners

Can you just clarify: in that photo, is the car facing left or right? :poke: :D

Yep, mapped N20 with a few suspension tweaks makes for a fast, fun road car

I have to admit, I’m far from a fan of the early Boxster’s push me- pull you design!
