Paint problem resolved by excellent customer service
Yesterday when cleaning the car my good lady wife noticed a small blister on the passenger door at the top edge where it meets the glass. The blister was about the size of your small finger nail.
This morning at 11am I phoned Lloyds at Newcastle, an appointment with the body shop was made for 1.30pm, car was examined and by the time I got home a distance of 13 miles, I received a phone call from Lloyds informing me the work had been approved by them, it had gone to BMW and approved by them also. The car is booked in for a full door repaint and curtesy car booked albeit a new Mini.
Can’t fault the customer service but has anyone else had the same issue? The paint guy did say they had a few similar issues with the 4&5 series but not Zeds.

I don't let anyone else anywhere near my car to clean it, especially the wife.
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

I wash and polish the car, my good lady follows on behind buffing it up.
Warning!
No comments about her buffing skills or I will grass you up.
Here is the problem area. The paint guys said it would be better if they did the full door rather than try to patch it an blend the colour in.

Just coming up to 4 years old, 22K on the clock, religiously garaged when not in use and always good quality ceramic polishZed Baron wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2024 7:04 pmwow I had to look twice, thought it was an E89 not a G29!Nanu wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2024 6:32 pm I wash and polish the car, my good lady follows on behind buffing it up.

That's disappointing on a car that is only 4 years old, but fantastic customer service!

That picture is making me feel a LOT better about the panel gaps on my Z3 body (that I am having to get reasonable).
Made my day! Thanks Mel...
AND GRP doesn't rust...it just crazes and cracks.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

That's a shame that a company as good as BMW has a problem like this after only 4 years with a caring owner.
At least they sorted it out for you

As I said earlier I thought it was an E89, I believe the doors on the G29 are aluminium and that looks like the classic aluminium oxidation problem (same problem that occurs in E89 roof panels!)Nanu wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2024 6:32 pm I wash and polish the car, my good lady follows on behind buffing it up.

The body shop suggested that like the issues they had been seeing in the 4 series, the seal around the widow nips the paint where it meets the door and sometimes it allows water in behind the paint. I am no expert all I know is they are doing a full door respray and there is no charge.Zed Baron wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 11:55 amAs I said earlier I thought it was an E89, I believe the doors on the G29 are aluminium and that looks like the classic aluminium oxidation problem (same problem that occurs in E89 roof panels!)Nanu wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2024 6:32 pm I wash and polish the car, my good lady follows on behind buffing it up.

Great result but I bet BMW don't publicise it. I asked the BMW assist man (helped with my pothole disaster) had he seen any Z4's with stones trapped behind the disc heat shields. He laughed and said 'Please I've lost count!' They are good at keeping quiet if there is a problem (understandably).

Hopefuly it will not effect G29s and this is only a one off. Worth people checking thoughr2uzenblot wrote: Wed Aug 07, 2024 7:59 pm Great result but I bet BMW don't publicise it. Yesterday I dropped the Zed in for the paint work and picked up the curtesy car, as expected a Mini. What I didn't expect was a new John Cooper Works edition cabriolet.
Nippy little thing but very hard suspension and seats, very bad blind spots but otherwise a lot of car for the money.
