Carbon Fibre Hatch / Tailgate (Rust)

Post by Jumbo401 » Wed Apr 03, 2024 5:00 pm

Hi everyone, due to the rust issues occurring if the hatch of my e86 I’ve been debating whether to repair or go straight to a carbon fibre tailgate.

Just need some opinions on if a CF hatch is a good idea?

It’s supplied by a company called Geoff steel. £1450

If your car is a track car it makes perfect sense.
If not I wouldn’t bother. The fit and finish on their carbon fibre parts is functional rather than a perfect finish.

I didn’t know that : / so the fit would probably be a bit off. : (

I’m going more for a good fit and looks

Yes the fit will be off for sure. His E46 M3 CSL bootlids are a terrible fit. But his stuff is for track use weight saving.

Thought the CF hatches were suspiciously cheap

Not every E86 hatch has rust issues. If yours does and you have a common colour, your cheapest option is to buy a hatch from a breaker. They are rarely damaged.
