Parking Brake Service Mode - ProTool

Post by javis20 » Sun Dec 17, 2023 4:03 pm

Just a heads up, ProTool can retract E89 parking brake actuator into service position via expert mode.

Per BimmerGeeks.

"Under the Functions menu, hit the Expert Functions

You have two jobs in there that handle this process:

STEUERN_MONTAGEMODE_AKTIVIEREN -> Activate Assembly Mode
STEUERN_MONTAGEMODE_DEAKTIVIEREN -> Deactivate Assembly Mode

Find those jobs in the expert functions, tap on them execute the jobs and then it will do what you need it to do for the service. We will get it added in for your specific module as well."

What you mustn’t do is ..after doing the service activate the parking brake with the caliper off the disc..otherwise..as I found out is the sounds of two pistons tinkling on the ground.. :tumbleweed: :headbang: :rofl:
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

I would take off the ebrake motors and wind out manually..
Both of my car ebrakes have had water leak in and fail them.
Good opportunity to inspect and put some grease around the seals on refitting.

Water enters through the shaft and corrodes the insides.
OBD was voltage problem on ebrake.

In fact the emotors are cheap 25-30 quid, i would replace if approaching 100k miles.
obd counts how many times they have been applied.

Bottom line should say right.
You can see the right failing over time to apply.

The new motors i packed with grease before fitting.

Exactly this is what happened to another Z4 some days before.

The story:
https://www-zroadster-com.translate.goo ... st-3615462

This tiny green PCB had massive corrosion on one of it's two pins and threw a fault code. No hint in the fault code, which side had been damaged!
Pardon, je suis Allemand :oops:
