Calling all zed enthusiasts...

The BMWCCGB are hosting a zed festival at the Silverstone Classic from 20 – 22nd July 2012. We are endeavouring to gather approximately 500 zeds together on Saturday 21st July that will culminate in a parade lap of the circuit at lunchtime by all zed participants. It will be a fantastic spectacle!

Remember to bring your driving licence if you want to take part in the parade lap, the organisers will check that you have yours with you on the day

The Silverstone Classic booking office has now opened and we have received a club discount code (C12112) to enable zed owners displaying their cars with us on the special BMWCC area to receive buy one, get one free entrance tickets. As well as the entrance tickets you’ll receive an infield display parking pass at the lowest possible purchase price up until June 14th. Note that you will need to nominate the car you will take, as the model and the registration number will be pre-printed onto the pass. Have these details available when you make your booking. Optional on site hotel room or camping facilities are also bookable at the same time.

To be a part of THE zed event of 2012 then register your zed with me via this thread and book your tickets at http://www.silverstoneclassic.com/buytickets to ensure your participation – DON’T FORGET TO USE THE DISCOUNT CODE!

I’ll keep this first post up to date with participant details and will advise of numbers registered from other forums too. Remember to keep an eye on this thread for updates of what to expect on the day.

UPDATE

To make sure you dont waste time getting into the correct entry area, please study the "Car Club Infield Display " information sent with your ticket and windscreen car park area sticker.

Enter as shown through car park 49, signed on Left side before roundabout. Allow time to get through the coned lanes, until the Ticket Check. From Car Park 49 ticket control... Go to Tee junction, turn RIGHT and proceed to Stop line. Turn LEFT and proceed over the Bridge until the Mini Roundabout, turn LEFT and proceed in a straight line until you come to a STOP at the TRACK. Turn LEFT and proceed SLOWLY, under the bridge and prepare to STOP where directed by Club Marshals to your SIGNED area. We are using the disused circuit as our parking area, with all Classes-Models-Types in sections. All facilities are in this area. We will use this position for FRIDAY and SATURDAY, and going to AREA 14, adjacent to this position, for SUNDAY.

Please pay attention to the Club's HiViz Marshals, and take direction to colour coded parking areas:

Z1 - Green
Z3 Roadster/Coupe - Red
Z4 Roadster/Coupe - Blue

Please look out for individual signs in these areas for Model types as requested by a number of owners and treat OUR Marshals with Respect at all times - remember, they are trying to help you to enjoy this event.

It probably goes without saying but just to make sure - be CAREFUL when you open your doors to ensure that you don't ding the adjacent car.

...and do try and park in a straight line, it looks so much better on the photos :D

Thanks for your understanding and let's have a great zedfest!

UPDATE - INSURANCE

All participants should note that insurance is an individual responsibility. If you are concerned then you should check that your insurance covers this type of event (i.e. a car show and parade lap).

UPDATE - PARADE LAP

1. The celebration Z Lap is marshal controlled at ALL times - excessive speed IS NOT welcomed

2. The maximum speed will be ~35/40 MPH

3. There are likely to be ~250 zeds on the track with you

4. ALL cars should follow the Chief Display Marshal, keeping in line as when starting the lap

5. PAY ATTENTION AT ALL TIMES to the marshal. Use your mirrors and prepare for the unexpected

As we get closer to the day I'm hoping to have a confirmation of timings, formation etc. Please keep checking this thread for the very latest situation.

I will have to check diary and holiday plans. Looks like a great event, but a fair trek from up here in Scotland.

Will they let alcoholics attend? :)
I'll get my coat again :tumbleweed:

srhutch - playing on the site, it looks like if you put the discount code in you get the buy 1 / get 1 free offer, but says your car needs to be registered with the club.

To the OP - Is that the same as being a member ? Or do we just need to register with you, on here ?

Very tempted by this, but not sure Mrs Bing will tolerate it... Perhaps my 12 year old son will appreciate the day though... I assume my 1+1 will cover a child, rather than buying a separate ticket for him ?

I don't think so Taz. Looks like AA members get 10% off standard ticket prices, the car club prices are 50% off. Standard prices are here

So we really need to join the BMW Car Club then?

Nope. You're registering with the BMWCCGB for this event with me via this thread so it's perfectly legitimate for you to use the BMWCCGB code for your tickets

Just register on here Bing. We'd like to see as many zeds as possible at the event, it should be a fantastic spectacle.

Of course I'd encourage everyone to join the BMWCCGB and if you'd like to do that you can get the details here however it's not mandatory for zedfest.

I'm looking to come to this but not sure wether to do the Fri & Sat or just the Sat,is there something on for the Fri thats worth seeing?

I've booked tickets on the silverstone website too - would be grateful if you could add my to your list as well! (I'm not currently a CC member)

Many thanks

Ben (Z4M Coupe)

I looked at getting my tickets for the Saturday and Sunday at the weekend. I hadn't realised until then that the Zed Fest was part of a much larger event. I must admit to being a bit disappointed at that. It's no so much a celebration of BMW Zed's per se. It's a Classic Car event of which we will be a small minority by the looks of it. I'm still up for it though.

However for those of you like me who gave up camping in their teens, a word of warning. Nearly every hotel within 20 miles of the track appears to be full that weekend. Therefore I may end up just doing the Saturday if there are no Zed-specific events on the Sunday.

The Snoozebox rates for a rabbit hutch room trackside are scandalous.

If I can afford this after my Q4 / Period 10 post-Christmas-car-crash financial review then I will just be doing the Saturday with my boy. Should still be a right good day though, and I'm sure there won't be many marques with 500 examples there
