Noise when unlocking Z4

Post by Andrew715 » Wed Jun 12, 2013 9:16 am

Hello, I recently bought a Z4 2005 3.0.

When you unlock the car there is a long whine or hydraulic kind of noise (about 5 seconds) . Also when it drives along, the same sound occurs occasionally. Is this normal? I have seen videos which suggest it is not. If it isn't, what can I do about it?

Thanks

For the first one, if you have memory seats, could it be your electric seat adjusting to the programmed setting (as logged in the key)?

Hello, no it's not the electic seats. It is an external sound.

Could it be the actuator inside the petrol cap? Have a listen near there.

If not, any ideas to which part of the car the sound may be coming from?

Andrew.

- Wing mirrors adjusting (unlikely if it does it while you're driving along)
- Fuel pump priming
- If it's got the SMG 'box, it might be the SMG pump pressurising the transmission

Thanks, it is the SMG hydraulic pump pressurising the system- found it on another forum after you mentioned it!
