Parrot MKI9200 install....
Hi everyone,
I've just managed to buy myself a parrot mki9200 hands free solution thingy for my iPhone and the Z4....
Has any one installed one of these systems themselves, or am I best to put the car into an ICE specialist and have them do it??
Cheers for any advice folks!!
Mark.

If you've swapped out a radio before there pretty straight forward, hardest part is find somewhere to mount the display.

Re: Parrot MKI9200 install....
I never have done no, and I've only had the Z4 for about 4 days so haven't thought about taking it to pieces yet!!
It does already have a DICE connector in it though, so is that going to be a help or hinderance?? I'm not planning on keeping both the DICE and the Parrot system (obviously), so will be selling that on....
Cheers, Mark.

IIRC dice is connected to cd changer so will ave no effect on parrot. You will need an iso interface/loom though as BMW doont use ISO connectors can get them on flebay for around £15
I mounted my Parrot controller next to the A/C controls using a Prodit no damage holder.

Re: Parrot MKI9200 install....
I installed it myself...
I mentioned it before in the following link and there's a few pics of the install there too : http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic ... 5&start=15
I put the Ipod/usb/jack connectors in the locking cubby box between the seats. to keep my ipod secure. screen to the right of the steering wheel, to keep it out of sight and controller i made a mounting plate that sits just south of the the gearstick. I parrot blue brain box sit behind the ash tray in the dash.
You will need the appropriate adaption harness to connect the parrot kit to the bmw radio. available from ebay.
It's not a complicated install but it's not for the faint hearted as i had literally the whole interior out. From the trans tunnel and rear cubby box to route the connector harness to dash and even the A pillar for routing the microphone, screen and place to mount the blue box brain box.
p.s. here's a better pic of how i did the controller mounting...

Cheers Tom - your set up is exactly what i'm hoping to achieve, however taking the whole interior out isn't something I'm relishing doing, unless there's a guide of how to do it somewhere on here that I'm missing??
If not, then I think I'm gonna need to start getting quotes for fitting for me....
Cheers again,
Mark.

Re: Parrot MKI9200 install....
Well, I had mine installed today and ....... well, It's a complete disaster - the screen doesn't seem to work properly (seems to be running at a very low res as the colours are all over the show) and it also won't upgrade the software as per Parrot's instructions....so my iPhone won't work properly with it either....
Moral of the story - If you fancy losing £150 quickly, give your money to me, and I'll buy you something slightly used from eBay!!

Re: Parrot MKI9200 install....
Sorry to hear that Mark.
You bought a USED one off ebay for £150?! ....
Surely you have some comeback though through ebay feedback / paypal item not as described systems...
Bought mine new and the screen is clear, high res and colours bright.
Try restoring factory settings?
When i upgraded software it didn't work first time because i mist out the step where i had to rename the file that I had downloaded before uploading it to the parrot kit. I didn't have any problems once i realised what i'd not done right.

Re: Parrot MKI9200 install....
It's just a bit of a ball ache though now it's all installed etc....I'm half tempted to have a bash at taking the stereo out myself to check how well it's been put in...maybe the cable for the screen just isn't quite in enough or something....
I called to Parrot themselves about it, who to be quite honest were next to useless....they said (of the upgrade issue) that as long as I've followed all those steps to the letter (which I have) then it should work....which doesn't really help when it doesn't!!!
Also they said that they don't replace parts that are faulty - the end consumer is required to purchase a new unit!!
Don't know what to do about it now...

Re: Parrot MKI9200 install....
If you bought it from a company you bought it from should provide you with some sort of warranty?
I bought mine new from First2Save on ebay and it came with 12 months manufacturers warranty. If a parrot kit is faulty all you have to do is send back the brain and screen the the company you bought it from and you then get a replacement ones.
Maybe you could ask parrot if you could just buy a new screen and brain and therefore not have to worry about removing the wiring.
can't be any more help I'm afraid. Guess it's just the risk you take with buying from ebay?

Re: Parrot MKI9200 install....
I fitted one of these in our CR-V, I couldn't get it to update, though this wasn't really a prob for us, also sometimes it just won't talk to the iPod. The only thing that I really didn't like about it was that the line out cables don't have any plugs on them, so you need to solder on either phono's or a jack plug.
