I do like the look of the 326s but I know what the problems are. I had these on my first e89.

I think I would be looking at Veeman. They seem to be fairly well priced and well made. They do some nice looking wheels too.
There are so many cheaply made Chinese wheels on the market, it's hard to tell the good from the bad. All of the 'wheel sellers' brand them as something or other but they are all cheap Chinese tat.

Those wheels on the above picture of Ian's are very sexy. Very Alpina-ish. :D
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

2024 Audi A4 avant 40 black edition petrol
2025 Ford Focus ST 'track pack'. Go-kart with sat nav.
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half.
No Z4 anymore!

Appreciate they are anthracite grey rather than silver but having previously had issues with 296’s and 326's I currently have a set of 230's on my E89.

I'm not really a fan of aftermarket wheels so the only other style I had considered was the 325's.

The fact I don't need spacers with the 230's is also another appeal for me.

I agree with you re Veemans. All reports seem to support the notion of good quality.

Another great strength of 230s is that they are really easy to keep clean.👍

Exactly. Second only to the style 18's I used to have on the Z3 which is a massive positive for me. I prefer driving to cleaning

I vote for the 326 wheels - still my favorite - but you need to keep your eyes open if still running runflats. Not seen many have a problem with them (including me for 20,000 miles) once you have fitted non run flat tyres.

2nd favorite would be the CSL style wheels - always loved them from back in the day.

But the best 19" wheel if you are worried about damage, is an 18" wheel with a thicker tyre.

If you look at the ferrari, lamborghini, fast audi forums - all of them bemoan the risks of the 19" and above wheel with skinny tyres - lots of different makes where people expect the laws of physics to no longer apply.

Hit a massive pothole at speed with a 35mm tyre & you are going to break it - whatever it is. Even more so if you have a semi solid run flat tyre with super stiff sidewalls that transfer the shock straight to the wheel.

I like the look of those veeman wheels - but I see nothing that makes me think it will take a hit any better than others. There are thousands of the BMW wheel variants out there, I suspect that's why you see comments about them more often.

Not enough people have the other wheels to kick up as big a fuss.

I keep seeing people recomment alloys with great big thick chunky spokes - but that's not the problem.

It's the rims that crack, usually on the inside edge away from the spokes.

Also - a bit of trivia - BMW revised the design of the 326m wheel to address this issue in 2010. Most of the BMW z4s were sold in their hayday of 2009-2010, and have the old style 326m. Newer year wheels it is supposed to be better - you need to have a google.

Not made by BMW, though. They were made by Ronal. BMW don't make wheels. In fact BMW don't make the vast majority of anything that goes into their cars (nor do any other manufacturer these days).
Unlike the MGB seats I have which were made by a bloke called Eric in a little shed on site at Ock Street in Abingdon. Them was the days! :)

437m gets my vote, but still think the 326's look great on the e89 too.

That might be why I can't find anything more specific... Will try searching for Ronald if I get very bored 😂

BMW should have asked Eric.....

The 326 wasn't offered on cars that age, it was 296's which on the earlier cars and thet were revised after many instances of cracking. There hasn't been a revised 326 as far as I'm aware.

EDIT now added picture of 296 and revision. Original had small lip, revised much more pronounced

Google AI may be making it up then - I'm no expert on it. Does say they were revised, but doesn't quote specifics.

I see some stamped as made in 2008, so they're were early 326m wheels out there somewhere.

    My 2010 35is had them.

Just checked my build sheet - 326m wheels were available from launch for the 2010 35is.

I have the receipt for mine 😂
