Lifting the car safely question
I seem to have a problem in understanding the proper procedure on putting the car on jacks…. Would you say this is a safe way to work underneath the car? I have also added 2 more axle stands un de the front but from what i can gather i havent got a front jack pad under the engine like the M models.

Jack on the REAR cill jacking point, it'll lift the front high enough to get a stand under the FRONT jacking point. Repeat on the other side. If you are on level ground its safe as houses.
If you then also need to lift the rear you can jack it on the rear diff where the two braces cross then two more stands under the rear cill jacking points.

The disadvantage of doing it your way is that you cannot take the wheels off which is what most people want to do when they jack a car up

Yes, I have two hydraulic jacks, so I can easily lift the car up to take the wheels off. I was doing this to drain the gearbox fluid and change the oil.Rockhopper wrote: Thu May 29, 2025 4:09 pm The disadvantage of doing it your way is that you cannot take the wheels off which is what most people want to do when they jack a car up![]()

If I had somewhere to keep them I think I'd consider a QuickJack. But you can also buy a proper two post lift for less money (and much less if you go used). You'd need enough height in your garage to be able to use it though.

I've been toying with the idea of the quickjack system for a while now. It is pricey. I have found a couple of other companies that do similar products for example Clarke for £1499. I cant give an opinion on them as I havent bought one yet as the thought of getting under a car whatever it is supported by is a bit scary.

Please do not underestimate the weight and force a car has on a persons body when you are underneath it . I recommend proper professional lifting and support equipment .

The QuickJack is manufactured by the Bendpack corporation, a leader in professional automotive lifting solutions....
So, it's quite safe.

1. Drive up on pair of 2 piece ramps. Put in gear.
2. Jack up the center rear
3. Slide jacks in rear.
4. Remove the incline portion of ramp.
5. If you need to remove front wheels, jack up each side, pull out the ramp and slide jack underneath
