Yeah, but does it make you happy?

[no need to answer!]
Would it make his patients happy though. After coming out of that bone shaker, with trembling hands he gets his scalpel
It wakes me up in the morning, I don't need a fourth cup of coffee before 0800h anymore :crazydude:

coldel wrote: Thu Mar 13, 2025 9:14 am Yep, Lotus are that. As I mentioned you won't get the refinement of a Porsche in an Emira but thats not the point. As I said further up, getting out my VX220 and getting into an E85 is like climbing into a van, I don't think people realise just how hardcore and connected a Lotus is. The Emira though is less of a Lotus if you like, if you set the benchmark as the Elise, its got some compromises to make it more of a sports car than a road going track car which is what the Elise/Exige is.

I would once again encourage anyone who has the chance to snap it up and own a VX220 or Elise/Exige. They are often bought for the ownership moment, so many have 10 owners by now but thats perfectly fine. Driving one on the road is utterly epic.

Great car, shame about the colour :P

Did Vauxhall call it Magnetic Blue as well? That’s the Lotus name for it.

It was called Europa Blue, there was another shade of blue which was a little lighter and more metallic, I can't remember the name of it though.

Lotus Emira V6 depreciation!

Really interesting thread this.

The only lotus’s I’ve driven are Elise’s, one my friend used to own years ago, and one on an experience day lapping a track. The only thing I’ve driven since that felt that alive was an Alpine A110 last year.

It was sensational to drive, absolutely fantastic, but I had a few issues with it and ended up in a Cayman instead.

Firstly, I struggled for comfort in both of the seat options. I have fairly broad shoulders for my modest height, and the so called ‘comfort seat’ option had tapered wings that tapered in about half an inch too much where my shoulders rested. The other option was fixed bucket seats, which were comfortable for me but not the Mrs.

In addition to that, luggage/stowage space is comical, makes the Cayman’s front and rear boot seem like a Volvo estate by comparison. There’s also no cabin storage, no glove box, no door pockets - nothing! I get that it’s engineered for lightness, but come on!

Finally build quality, there’s no getting away from the fact that it’s a Renault… not a patch on the Cayman.

Despite all their faults, I still catch myself on Autotrader looking at them now and then…. If I had limitless money and a massive garage I’d have one, just to go for early morning blasts of 50 -100 miles for no other reason than to drive the doors off it :driving:
Alpina Roadster S Lux no. 204 (1 of 15 uk cars in Alpina Blue)
Porsche 718 Cayman - PTS in Gulf Blue (Believed to be 1 of 1 in UK…tbc)

Previous Z4’s : into double figures

The A110 is probably the only 'proper' sportscar left being made. They are very light (very in modern terms) and a great car, by all accounts.
Being made by Renault is not a downside, IMO, they have made some stonking cars over the years. As long as you disregard the electrics which the French never seem to have got the hang of.
BUT.....have you actually seen how it looks? My God it is fugly. It's like the bastard child of a radiated Sprite and an Audi Q7 who were both pissed on a day out in Skegness and had a knee trembler behind the chippy.

This thread was about the Emira....I don't think ANYONE could say it is ugly, whether it is a good car or not (it will be a good 'car' as it's a Lotus). Whether it's a good car to own is under review.

I would have an Emira tomorrow. It is the ONLY car I lust after these days; being sensible and realistic. :D

Pondrew, given the total expenditure (so far) for your Fauxrrari, do you think you would have gained more pleasure from buying an Emira instead?

He would have had more pleasure violently banging the toilet seat against his knob for an hour than his Ferrari build.

I wasnt sold on the A110 when it first got redone, I appreciated it harked back to its original look but it didn't quite nail that modern but classic look. The S does look good though. Weirdly, the A110 doesn't photograph well, a bit like the VX220, which looked much better in reality than a distorted flat pic from a camera would give.

Sports cars for sure are becoming marginalised by the day, that performance car that is just in reach for your everyday person are just falling out the development roadmaps. The Cayman is a great car, but its very engineered and personally when I took one out, felt it was almost too easy to drive fast.

No because it would just sit in the garage. Then I know (from many previous experiences) I would sell it as I get bored easily, lose a shed-load of money and be car-less again.
The Fauxrrari is keeping me busy, at least. I can't sell it, even if sometimes I really want to, as it is worth nothing in it's present state. So I can't afford to get bored with it.
If, and when, it is finished it may be a different matter!

Perhaps once it’s completed (the Fauxrrari and the knob-banging) and you’re bored again, you can sell it (car not knob) for enough to cover the cost of owning an Emira for a few weeks…

That is a thought I am working on. More to keep me focused than anything else. However, if the Fauxrrari works out as I hope, it will be stupid to sell it as I could never get another the same.
