This is the second set of " refurbished " wheels that had failed, sold by a certain individual on Facebook. Careful what you buy

OP, can you provide some clarification on the "other" time?

Shocking story about split rims

Loads of satisfied customers have bought wheels of Simon, but there seem to be a couple of instances that get dragged up from time to time, a bit like what happened with Mike/DLV on here. It is more a salutary lesson about second hand split rims than Simon in my opinion. I have split 2 sets of 108s - one was fine, the other had several broken bolts which had been araldited in. You wouldn’t have been able to tell without splitting them.

Having spoken too and met Simon the wheels in question were not refurbished by him, he only located them for the buyer and sold them on, effectively got stitched up by the people who did bodge the wheels. It got resolved in the end as I understand. But then FB and the like does like to twist a story....

Well I can see that Simon made some quick easy money on the side there just by locating a seller and buyer, but by doing so he cannot be absolved financially for sorting it out. Thems the chances you take if you do that! Glad it was all resolved.

He is known across FB, he does charge a premium (to be honest no less than your local wheel shop, in many cases more) but I would say 9 times out of 10 he does a good job. I have seen complaints over the years but thats to be expected, the important thing is if you are making a living out of this then you have to follow up and provide lawful customer service support should the product fail.

This is of course the problem with not doing the work yourself and trusting that the product you are passing on for profit is as good and safe as described.

He does it as a hobby, it's not his day job, done to help out fellow Zed owners. Try getting split rims refurb anywhere near the same cost, many places won't touch them.

Once you accept money for goods you sell, you are the person the customer has a contract with and you are liable for them.

As with all businesses, your reputation is everything so responding to issues is paramount, even if it may not always be your fault. It may cost you a few shipping and repair costs (or even refunds) etc, but the damage from a disgruntled customer is 10 times bigger.

Sometimes customers will think you are a safe and good business to deal with if you make a mistake and correct it without fuss or cost to the customer than if everything was correct in the first place.

I really wish this were still true, mate. In my experience in the last few years (with work on a daily basis and elsewhere) it is sadly not very common for businesses to give a toss anymore, except when it comes to making as much money as possible. :(

Not relevant to the thread, but hey.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Ive had good customer service, often though its just through very blatant obvious issues that the seller couldn't really talk around.

Also being able to explain your consumer rights in a calm and ordered fashion helps

Buying off people off FB has its hits and misses more than most. I used a retrimming guy via FB and he was outstanding, he lives in Cheshire and was down London way visiting family and offered to pick up my seats and door trim from my VX220 and take it with him back up there to retrim to save on postage for me!

There are good ones out there, just finding them, and covering your ass as best you can.

Yes My wife's car broke down with lots of electrical things not working in Newport this Wednesday, the AA arrived 10 mins after she called them and brought it home. Took it to Bowdens in Torquay this morning at 8.30 am with no appointment, by 12.30 a phone call to say it was sorted. Now that's what I call bloody good service. As has been said, they are out there somewhere, it's finding them that is the problem.
