I have just renewed the insurance on my E86 and it is cheaper than last year despite having an accident that went down as my fault and my wife picking up 3 points.

So many thanks to Chris Knott Insurance for providing a good service and great value insurance.

They giveth and they taketh away…

From other insurance related comments it appears there are some huge premiums being waved around, however there are also some reasonable offers (for some). Jumped from long-standing insurer LV to Aviva this year after a quote for 50% more; now have it cheaper than last year! Good luck

If the insurance companies use the same or similar "risk" calculation algorithm, then in theory the premiums should be similar give or take. Cost of parts / labour / theft statistics etc etc are the same for all companies, so what makes for the massive differences suddenly.

Reading articles about Honda Jazz cars no longer being insurable by an insurance company, you do wonder what their game is.

I had to move 3 cars to LV from Admiral (where I had 7 cars insured). For the three together, the premium was £1000 cheaper (The Z alone went to £700 at Admiral whilst £300 at LV).

Really is hard work to go through renewals now.

Sorry that you've seen such an increase. It's honestly painful having to send out some of these rates when we don't ultimately have control over them.

We've actually seen an increase in business from this forum in recent months (people shopping around and finding us competitive), but we've also lost some where Insurer's rate increases just go to far. I know that none of this helps you right now, but I wanted you to know that we still are still doing the best we can, within the limits set by insurers.

Hope you mange to find something more financially satisfactory. Thanks again for your business over the last year.

Simon

Just a quick update on this.

I spoke with Chris Knott about this and one of the reasons that I have seen the large increase is that the underwriter that they previously used is no longer offering suitable insurance.

In the past couple of years I was able to get a classic car policy for my E86 but I am now be told the vehicle needs to be 20 years old so I am back to using a regular type insurance albeit with limited miles.

Fortunately I have just gone back to having a company vehicle so I can use my NCB but this does mean moving away from Chris Knott but policy will be a similar price to last year but the excess is a lot higher.
