I have a cut on the rubber trim on 54377224676 strip (#3)

Anyone know if it's possible to remove the rubber from a junked/dented ebay part and replace just the rubber aspect of that piece?

I'm sorry I can't help you with this but you deserve an answer of some kind.
So, who is Nick? And does he wear this rubber trim all the time or just at weekends? :D

For a mere US$150, you’ll know it yourself.

Or drive there. They’re in the Philly area. You can get your part and a cheesesteak. Deal !

Well... 960mile roundtrip... more than $140 of fuel on a holiday... towards the armpit of PA...

I need more of a sell job there... I'd be more willing to justify an 18hr one-way trip to Florida.

Philly is cool, mate. Brotherly luv and all that.

Besides, I’ve been to your town. It’s no Carmel by the Sea.

It's way too close to 'Jersey.. West side of PA is great country, especially close to WVa.
I've never been a big fan of the east coast big cities - I've worked in several -- too much concrete and steel.

My 'hood -- Ohio is flat, but as long as you stay AWAY from the big cities... nice.

I ended up getting that part for $68. The rubber is intact. Looks like Shell2 came down hard enough in the wrong position to dent the center and the metal on the sides... so I cannot just use it as is. So I wiped it down with a wet rag, dried it and Gummi Fledge Stifft'd it. The seal looks usable, and appears to be glued to the metal part.

Looking for the experiential advice from y'all. What adhesive is used to attach the rubber to the metal on the part(what should i use to free it up safely). What could I use to attach the rubber to the metal part on my Z4?

Christopher, this is a stretch. These guys replaced headlamp lenses, which I reckon it involves attaching rubber to metal or other materials. Perhaps they’ve a solution for you. I wish I could be of more help. Good luck !

My honest recommendation is to go buy the complete part & replace it.

The time / effort you will spend attempting to seperate & then replace the rubber is a fools errand IMHO.

If you really must do a bodge - gaffer tape might work.

Yeah, but like most things... the new part price of $660 versus the attempt at $68 gives me interest. I've a bunch of other functional 90k aged parts that can use that $600 saved for preventative maint.

Maybe 3M Black Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b40069430/? Anyone ever use it?

I don't get the following scenario: All, could you please help me with X? Oh, X is foolish, you neither want or need it, do Y. (I'm guilty of that too.)

Christopher, did you get it from the vendor near Philly ?

Yep, that's the one, I satisfied my (value/PITA) index with price haggling. :violent1:
For $68 its worth the challenge in seeing if the seal can be removed without damage -- and I had to get out of my own way... [guilty]
... and wasn't seeing any better options to get rid of something that apparently, I'm the only one who sees (SWMBO comment).

This off-white flexible gooey adhesive that BMW uses (in the previous picture) -- anyone know what that is?

Yes I was a bit disappointed as well when I read the title

Per popular demand, Nick says hi. Enjoy, chaps !

I’m more into Nick’s sister, but I shall not judge.

heated it up with a heat gun to loosen the sealant.
Some sort of clear 2-sided flexible ribbon/tape adhesive. <1mm thick
perhaps heating it back up will reactivate the grab on the good part.

Good work, Christopher.

What are the discoloured bits ? Or is that glue that came from the metal part ?
