Beam deflectors- RHD/LHD? Whats correct?

Post by bigwinn » Sat Oct 17, 2020 7:11 pm

I'm sure someone will point to a manual somewhere- when I disassembled my headlights today I noticed a lever on the projector lens rear- is this a way of moving the beam pattern when driving on the left from right side of the road (or vice-versa)?

Never seen it before

Arrowed in picture

More importantly- which way should they be for us driving on the left<<<???

Because one of mine was up, one down! Assume they should both be the same?

Beam deflectors- RHD/LHD? Whats correct?

I’m sure the tab should be down on both sides.

Having it in the up position blocks some light on the left hand side of the light output, this would be when you’re on the opposite side of the road as to not dazzle standard LHD drivers.

That’s from memory! So let’s wait for a second opinion! :D

Resurrecting an old thread here- still not 100% conclusive but I’ll have a look in the manual

Beam deflectors- RHD/LHD? Whats correct?

Lever UP position for normal UK driving.
lever DOWN when driving on the continent.

Note that my RHD car has been imported into NL and my headlights are permanently converted for driving in EU / rght side of the road with LHD lenses. The baffles are therefore on the left side of the lens looking forward. UK lens baffles are on the right side looking forward.

Lever UP lowers the beam baffle

Lever DOWN raises the baffle.

Cheers Chris

Had a play this am and I agree- only slight changes to beam pattern but it’s there!

Thank you

I'll amend my post slightly, are you sure your lenses are in correctly?

They look like (transparent at the top) they will light up the horizontal line, then up into the sky? i.e. you will have no light output on the road? :?

Irrespective of which way you toggle of the beam pattern (not sure if its UP or DOWN)... for RHD vehicles, you want the "light line" to look like this:
