Just been with number one son to see this beauty, pre reg, delivery miles only, £34k !

Any feedback on the difference in performance and fuel economy in the 20i and the 30i ?

It's for him not me by the way, I'm under strict orders to stop buying cars :(

That’s a beaut...! I do wish people would stop putting pics of these cars up....want...!!

Sorry I can’t help with your question Huzee, all I can say is I have driven a 20i and found it to have decent and plenty of power so the 30i should be a cracker. Best of luck...! :driving:

Thanks John, I want him to have it as he still lives at home and I’ll be able to pinch it ! :driving:

I believe the official fuel figures are the same for the 20i and the 30i, it’s the same engine with different mapping.

I’m very pleased with my 20i, returns around 38mpg in a very mixed bag of journeys. For reference, my old E89 20i used to give about 32mpg over similar driving.

"I believe the official fuel figures are the same for the 20i and the 30i, it’s the same engine with different mapping."

Isnt the 20i a 2 liter 4 cylinder and the 30i a 6 cylinder 3.0 liter?

Cant be just just mapping?

( The E85 2.5 6 cyl and the e85 3.0 6 cyl return similar mileage - we achieved 35 on a european tour in the 2.5 and the current 3.0si does anything between 26 and 36 on a run)

Well thats downright sneaky! I thought the whole point was to have the 6cy engine over the 4 cyl.

So the 20i and 30i both get the 4cyl engines and now you need to buy a M40 to get a 3.0 liter 6 cylinder?

Never mind , they will all be electric soon, Ill stick with the 30si straight 6

Always learning.

Nothing is as it seems with BMW model numbers, I’m constantly asked if my Zed is a 3.5, I just say yes now it’s easier

The 30i gets a very good write up of being the nice sweet spot between punchy performance and economy. The 2.0i is light but perhaps a little lacking and the M40i is heavier, but then you get that glorious straight six noise.
Lots of reviews online and on YouTube on the 30i. If it has all the bits your son wants then it’s worth a serious look.

Thanks all for your help and comments, I think he will be introducing himself on the Forum within the next week or so

Great news.

Hopefully he'll stop driving it long enough to take a few photos for when he joins the forum!

Went with number one son yesterday to collect his new car, got to say that I didn’t like the G29 at first but seeing it in the flesh and now having driven it I’m in totally converted, it’s stunning. He’s in work right now probably getting nothing done and dreaming of the drive home at 5 o’clock. When he’s finished wearing out the Michelins I’m sure he’ll sign up and post some pics

Congrats to your son. Lovely car and I’m sure he’s enjoying it immensely. They’re much better in the flesh and the cabin is a great place to be.
