My Z4 Ownership experience / Garage

Bit of a rant, brought my Z4 back in middle of May, I would love to say that I was enjoying ownership, but for the last month the car has been back with the garage I brought it from.

Brought in may, two weeks after purchase there was a oil leak, it went back to the garage where it spent 3.5 weeks whilst they sorted it out, I had also told them about the hydralic leak as per previous post and then one day it stopped working all together. So I took the car back and got a courtesy car, which I still have now. (Vw Golf)

Called the garage today, he now has the parts to repair the car but could not get the roof lowered to replace them hydraulic fluid. This is now 4 weeks after I dropped the car off for the 2nd time

The garage I brought it from is a joke, the owner is trying to do everything himself, sales, organising repairs, I won't mention the garage name but I haven't enjoyed ownership, and summer in the car :x

He spoke to a bmw specialist today where the car is going on the 2nd September, so with luck I might actually get it back by winter  the specialist said the roof will have to come off the car from what I heard.

I have told him I was considering getting my money back and probably will still speak to trading standatds. But I still like the car, the e89 Z4 I've always liked, just a shame mine has a few issues thus far

Damn, bit unlucky there pal... for sure the roof is not something a regular garage should be tackling, a good knowledgeable indi is the best bet, lots of time still to enjoy an e89 and hopefully you get this sorted and have trouble free motoring going forward

Sorry to read that your Z4 ownership epxerience has been such a hassle. :(

But hopefully once you get it back and working roperly you'll be able to enjoy it, as they are great cars. Sadly yours hasn't turned out to be the best example so far!

Hi Shane,
I feel for you, seriously. I have followed your progress and it's not what you deserve or should expect. At least the garage you bought from is trying to help; some wouldn't.
I would be interested to know the garage name, as I was born and spent 40 years in Wycombe, so may know them (or at least know someone who knows them and could possibly give them a shove). :)

Hi Shane, it is a paining the arse when things go wrong and the garage takes an age to repair them.

Don't let it put you off the car, getter roof repaired and make certain it is working when you takeout away, also check the repairing garage is giving a warranty on the repair.

I don't think we have had that good a summer yet anyway, maybe we will get a great Sept so you can enjoy the car as it is meant to be enjoyed

Keep us all updated

Thank you all for your comments, the garage owner is trying, but I had a full on argument with him today and he called the specialist whilst I was on the phone. So far the garage has owned the car longer then I have.

I won't mention the garage as hopefully now things are moving slowly forward. But it wasn't local to me in High Wycombe.

Many people I have spoken with has said get your money back, but I know I won't find a replacement that I like as the market has gone up on these recently. Its only done 65k so I think it's pretty good mileage

Well at least he is trying - so many traders aren't interested after you've paid them, although the time scale must be frustrating.

But that lovely colour combination isn't easy to find and as you say prices aren't dropping!

Hopefully your patience will be rewarded.

I was hoping to get it back by my birthday , but that won't be happening..currently driving around two diesel Golf's :D, my daily car and courtesy car

Thanks, I don't think he had a leg to stand on after I showed him the fluid, and mentioned the consumer act 2015 :D

Just keep on at him, if this fails send him a letter clearly stating you are returning the car and why plus the chances you have given him.

Like you say though prices have increased and it is a great colour combo with decent mileage so worth giving him this last chance

Good evening all, Two months with not having the car, i can finally say its now back with me, picked it up this afternoon and everything seems to now be fine - hopefully i can now enjoy the car.

I was getting to the point of being fed up, but somewhat glad that kept holding on.

Future plans is just to tidy it up (detail) the bodywork, maybe add some small touches and enjoy :driving:

Great news that you finally have the car back. Hopefully there are still a few sunny days to come for you to get out and enjoy it…… and all the problems are now behind you :driving:

Cheers Guys, it has been long, but hopefully it will be ok from now, even had the roof down and wind in my hair this afternoon - even though I'm a baldy 😀

So it seems that i got it wrong, the problem is still not fixed and the original problem persits. i haven't driven the car since Monday brought some things today to detail it on the weekend. I have already been on touch with the garage that i brought it from to say it still continues. obviously he left it in the hands of the BMW specialist, and he told them to check but he was advised that it was ok.

I am close to wanting a refund, but i really like the car

Then surely the Z4 specialist needs to have it back to get it sorted?

Do you really want a refund or is it just the frustration? one thing for certain if you keep the car you need an extend warranty.

Yeah I've sent the garage owner a message saying its got to go back to the BMW specialist for them to sort it.

At the moment, this is all at his cost, so it's ok. Just glad I spotted it in the first place. My first ever convertible - what a palavour
