Std leather seats vs Sports seats

Looking at buying an E89 with the standard leather seats, interested to hear from other owners with the std seats to see how comfortable they are as I am 6ft 4, Is the adjustment the same as on the sports seats, ie can you adjust them so they are flat rather than at an angle. I have sat in the sports seats which were very comfortable, if I buy the car I want with the std seats I don’t want to find myself crippled after a couple of hundreds mile.

The non sports seats are very basic and not very supportive. I upgraded mine and the difference is huge in terms of comfort and lateral support, especially through the corners. Sports seats have additional side supports (on mine they are adjustable too), but they dont have lumbar support (which is a shame)

Standard seats are really poor. I'm 6'4 too and just about fit. I have the sport seats but still suffer from discomfort on drives over 2 hours.

Watch out for the terms used to describe these things, bmw call the standard seats “sports seats” and the more sporty ones are known as “M sport seats”

I have a 2012 MY M Sport 20i..no adjustable bolsters but electrical adjust lumbar via small rocker switch on outside corner of each seat...

Despite slide, lift, back adjust, thigh support and tilt all mechanical after 2 hours I’m incapable of fathering or bearing children.. :fuelfire:

Std or M seats

Hi, drove my e89 from Essex to Monaco last year and covered 2.5k miles in a week without a twinge.
The M sport seats come highly recommended 8)

Std or M seats

M seats..probably just getting old as well as well nourished..

I think bolsters (side supports) are all you get on Z4 m sports seats.. electrically operated. But no lumbar support unfortunately..

Electric over manual you get extra UP / DOWN movement, which would benefit a taller person.

Both Lumber and Backrest Width Adjustment are options available for both the "Standard" and "Sports" seats (NOT included within the Memory function, ie; pressing the Memory button DOES NOT re-position Lumber or the back rest width).
On the "Sports" seats you also have the Thigh Support adjustment (manual).

The Standard elctric with Memory seats I've just retrofitted over my previous Standard manual seem to be a lot more comfortable, but that could be because they are a lot less miles and newer.

M-Sports here, fully electric + lumbar  Never had any problem on long journeys and I've had back trouble for 20years+

I have M sports seats, part electric!! but with lumbar support, they take a bit of adjusting to get right, but once you do, they are pretty comfortable

OK, enough of M sports seats you are all making me envious, however with my fat arse when I sat in a Z4 with M seats last weekend they did feel comfortable but a somewhat tight squeeze, beginning to think the std seats with not some much bolstering might be the way forward for me, its just knowing whether they fully adjust to get the best seating position. Sitting in one Sat to check them out, next big battle before biting the bullet is insurance, having had company cars since 1990 and 9 points on my licence in 2014 (long and sad story) soon to disappear thankfully I think I am going to get shafted, oh dear break out the KY. Will give Chris Knott a call first and see what they can do for me.

Frankie169,

Photo attached is of my very comfy standard seats I've just fitted. Loving the memory and how much more they keep you placed over the ones I had previously.
Retrofitting them wasn't quite straight forward but that was my mistake, overall it's a relatively easy retrofit (if you do it right!! lol) and well worth all of the effort in the end.

Thanks Dave, those are the seats in the Z4 I am looking at buying, good to know they are comfortable and also look a bit more spacious.

Do the passenger seats have lumba support (wifey is concerned about her comfort on long journeys (as am I) and do the std seats have lumba support?

Thanks for the answers guys,

From what I have read, for some reason only some of the M sport seats have lumbar support, mine does (its a 2014) both driver and passenger,so whether that came in later, with the 2013 facelift I am not sure,
