sound generator mod :-D

Just did this...took both bits of foam out and it's ridiculously loud when you put your foot down lol. Awesome, although strange how you get a little rasp though. I might put the more porous bit of foam nearest the air filter back in to see if that gets rid of the rasp but keeps the noise. Either way, my face started off :| and soon went to  .

Great mod :D  When I drive later today I'm going to put my Gopro in there and do a comparison video.

Question is though, what do the 2.5 z4s have instead? Just a blanking grommet or something I expect?

Did this mod the other week but left the foam in nearest the bulkhead, great sound but it can get a bit addictive

Did you try diff combos? I tried both left in(obviously), bulkhead one left in (not a huge amount of difference imo) and both removed. Did you try removing the bulkhead one and just leaving the foam nearest the air filter? If so, how did it compare to just leaving the bulkhead one in?

Just took the one piece out as i'd heard that both removed can be a bit much.

It is really loud yeah lol. But worth seeing what you think. There is virtually no noise increase really unless you really put your foot down. I'll give it a butchers later with the air filter end foam left in :)

Currently have both mine out but I'm going to put one of them back in this week...

After driving across half the west of England with my GF, I've become pretty sick of the 'blaaaaaart' noise with both bits of foam out. On the motorway it was just enough to get really annoying everytime I needed to over take.

It's fun with the roof down, but when you're cruising on the motorway, the sound really gets inside your skull.

Will experiment with one this week...

Just took both pieces of foam out and went for a quick drive... wow it really is loud with the throttle open... and yes, there is a slight raspy buzzy sound when you get on the gas at first. I pulled over and put the smaller piece nearer the air box back in and the buzz is pretty much gone (only notice it when the fan & radio are completely off and the windows are closed with hardtop on)... but the crazy sound on "flat out" driving is still there and a bit addictive. Sounds great to me! I've had my car for 4 years now and this reminds of the feeling when I first got it. I guess I'd gotten use to and a bit bored of the normal Z4 sound. :)

If the sound gets annoying I'll cut the longer piece of foam in half and put part of it back in nearer the firewall.

I took both out, and I ain't ever putting any back in.

I think the sound is much better with the foam out, now I just need an exhaust and intake that sound equally encouraging!!
btw - took out both pieces at least 6 months ago

I have had my Z for 2 years and have only now removed some of the foam (bulkhead bit). A revelation and highly recommended :driving:

you guys are insane!

I find my car too noisey on full throttle as it is and both bits of foam are in place!

I have cut the bulkhead piece in half and then placed it back in. The noise is slightly increased and only under full throttle . A subtle change worth trying.

This all sounds really good to me and I'm wanting a bit more volume but I just have no idea what you are talking about. Can anyone enlighten me and maybe show me some pics please.

Have a look at this thread.

Did the mod at lunch today in two minutes and most of that was pushing the pipe back in to the bulk head but to be honest I'm not sure it's in properly. It does sound nice but I wouldn't want it any loader so I'm going to stick with the one still in engine side. Two questions though....can it be heard outside the car? And will it have any affect on the air intake as I could swear it was bogging out at first?

suppose so, but then you would be admitting your a pussy.

I have both out and an eisenmann race and it's just right, if a little quiet
