Mondo's new plaything - all retrimmed now

So, after putting a deposit down a week or so ago, I decided that I'd define "essential travel" myself yesterday and went to pick up my new toy: a 2004 3.0 SE manual roadster. She seems to pretty well spec'd - electric heated black leather, cruise control, auto lights, rear PDC, electric mirrors, etc.

A 248 mile trip home gave me plenty of time to get used to an unfamiliar car and, once I left the motorway for the last few miles of the trip and as the sun was shining, I dropped the roof and arrived home in some style. She's currently sat on the drive in need of a good wash so pictures will be forthcoming after that's been done.

She is not without her issues of course, one of which is a bit bizarre. The windscreen washers don't work when the car is moving! Absolutely fine when static, but not even a dribble once you're on the move.... is this something anyone's come across before....?

My immediate plans are to tidy a few bits and pieces up. Long term plans involve a bespoke retrim and probably a new roof to match. And getting out there and driving her once all this Covid nonsense is behind us!

So yeah, I'm now an owner... :D

3.0 manual great choice and such a great car I love mine!

Pictures pictures pictures hurry up and clean it wanna see

Re the wipers check there not out of position sometimes they get stuck, or could be Faulty fuse or wiper stalk

The wipers themselves are fine - it's the washers that don't work at all when the car is moving. I can't for the life of me think of a reason why the car moving would cause an issue.....

Welcome on board. You've had all day now to wash it, so how's about some shiny Zed pics. :D

Is something kinking a hose. :?

Congratulations on getting your new Z.
Looking forward to seeing it.

Your washer problem seems a bit bizarre to say the least.
All I can think of is something aerodynamically kinking the pipe?
Is it snagged in the bonnet? Would maybe let enough water through, but once aerodynamic force acts on the bonnet it may squeeze the pipe closed? I'd be looking for something following that theory to start with maybe?
Can you hear if the pump is running?

Hi and welcome - that's a good looking Z.

Cheers. I'm rather happy with her so far! A few jobs to do to tidy things up here and there, but first and foremost is getting the interior trimmed... I think she's crying out for red trim.... 8)

Nah... I want something a bit more bespoke than a factory interior.

Well the out side is looking nice and shiny. The interior project has me intrigued already. :)

Welcome to the forum, how much of the interior are you planning on changing

All the existing leather areas will be retrimmed, along with a couple of additions that I think BMW should have done something with from the factory.

The cabin is the part of the car that we as drivers see the most of, so it should look as nice as possible. :)

There was an extended leather option. Not sure exactly what parts are included in that, but it definitely exists. All extra, of course.

Whilst my knowledge is limited on these cars right now, I'm pretty sure that at least the roll hoops were leather-trimmed in the extended package - I think red hoops might look a bit much so I doubt I'll be doing those.

Very informative, thank you. I won't be going that far at this point, although it may well happen in the future...
