Yeh, completely different setup on the N52 (in fact it has 2 DISA valves) and not known to fail (certainly not in the same way as the M54). You will always get a few people throwing comments around which aren't perhaps that well considered - but that's OK, just don't let it keep you awake at night . Your engine sounds fine to me.
