Hi all

After an E85 either 2.5si or 3.0si. Looking for 06-08 ideally as I want the N52 engine based on reports of reliability (also fancy the facelift)
The car will be a second car that gets used 1-2 times a week mostly small journeys although we'll be more tempted to use the zed than the polo we currently have I'm sure.
After something sub 100k miles, good service history and fairly recent MOT if possibly (<6 months) Interested in reports of work done to remedy common issues too e.g. roof motor, vanos. Seen a couple of examples around the 4k mark that tick the above boxes but putting the feelers out to see what's out there. Midlands based but don't mind going a couple of hours for the right car.

Please let me know if I'm wide of the mark in criteria/pricing too! :D

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

All of the facelift 6s had the N52 engine, but you might need to be careful to avoid the facelift 2.5i as it is way down on power compared to the 2.5Si. Anyway the N52 is a great engine. After having two in E86s, when I was looking for a 3 Series I made a point of finding a 325i with one, but after a year I swapped it for a 330i for a bit more grunt!

I wouldn't get too hung up on mileage. If you buy one that has already done 100K you won't take a hit on value when it goes past that landmark and they seem pretty bulletproof. My 325i had 139K when I sold it and my 330i is on 128K now but both performed brilliantly. Someone on here has an E86 with over 200K miles!

The other bonus of the facelift is that Sport models all have the very desirable M-Sport seats, but BMW were a bit mean with the spec on Z4s so things like heated seats, Xenons, cruise control, rear parking sensors were all on the options list. Most E85 owners want cars with heated seats, and the Xenons are much better than the standard Halogens.

Anyway good luck finding the right one.

Thanks for the response mate. Yes keeping an eye out for that all important 's' definitely. The mileage point is a good one I hadn't really thought of. Will keep that in mind when looking at prices.

Glad to hear you've had so much enjoyment out of them!

There are plenty of Z4 2.5si with lowish miles at sensible money, make sure it has a good service history if it’s your first Z it will be an excellent start, if you want more the equivalent 3.0 is likely to cost £3k more

3.0Sis seem to command a premium, probably because forum member tony's database suggests only 695 manual 3 litre facelift Roadsters came to the UK which makes them almost as rare as MRs.
