Quaife Differentials - Birds Auto Offer

Afternoon all,

further to various posts on the forum over the last week or so, I have been in contact with Birds to see if they would be able to offer any form of deals for Quaife LSD's for our cars.

Info on the Quaife diff on Birds' Website here: http://www.birdsauto.com/content/quaife-atb-limited-slip-differential-bmw-and-mercedes

I had been waiting until such time as Birds were able to update their website with the offer, but having spoken to them today, this appears to be a little way off for the minute, so in the absence of this;

For November AND December for bolted differentials, it will be 10% on parts for mail-orders and 20% on parts for installations done at Birds
So:

1.Mail-order - £1050.60 retail less 10% = £945.54.

2. Installed - £1050.60 retail less 20% = £840.48 + £480 labour =£1320.48.

If you wish to take advantage of this offer, I have been speaking to James Bird - please mention my name (Ed Doe) and the forum when calling to book.

Currently I believe Bird's are working on about a weeks' lead-time for booking in the fitting work, obviously this will be subject to change.

I would appreciate if those who have taken advantage of this deal could post below, I had hoped to get a slightly better discount and might be able to get a little more if we get decent numbers - if that is of any interest..?

Hope this helps a few people :)

Cheers

Ed

UPDATE 3rd November

I have just had an email from James at Birds. The Offer is now live on their website, and has been extended through December too So now you can ask Father Christmas for one with a clear conscience

Link to the offer: http://www.birdsauto.com/news/winter-special-offer-quaife-atb-differentials-bmw-e85e86-z4

May your Christmas be full of Opposite lock and tyre-smoke

This is interesting as an LSD is next on my list. MFactory aren't as cheap as they were so this is tempting.
Do they provide a donor diff or install into current? I guess the bearings aren't replaced if they install into current diff?

Scooba_steve,

I asked the question re the bearings - they have the correct puller tool so re-use the existing. They do not use a donor diff housing as far as I'm aware - they remove your diff unit, replace the open diff with the Quaife unit, fill with diff oil and refit.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks - I'll definitely consider, especially as I have a spare diff for just this job. How about suggesting they make it a nice round £1250 installed?

^ I need to get some numbers first really! I doubt they'd want to do much less, but I want to say "I've brought you X people, can you knock another whatever off the price?"

Morning all,

Update in the Original Post with a link to the Birds offer which is now officially live on their website!

They have also extended the offer into December as well.

Cheers :)

Thanks for doing this, they are letting me benefit from the offer too despite booking in before it was arranged.

I'm in :)

Would probably want to drop my spare diff to them and then schedule fitting though.

Can't speak for the Z4 diff as I've never pulled it but done many on my Jerps and would never reuse bearings or simply slot in a spare diff with its bearings.
Amy town will have a bearing supplier that can provide new ones for a few ££'s

Just my preference, but as I say without Z4 diff setup experience

Nothing wrong in re using the bearings as long as they are inspected and are ok.
I reused mine no bother. They are also very hard to get hold of. BMW would sell me a new set of bearings. As long as i brought the rest of the diff!!!

Hi MM - I'd respect that opinion knowing you've done it and caveat about inspection them. I just prefer to set up R&P correctly, end float, pinion preload, backlash, etc.
Strange they are hard to get. My local guy can produce any bearing and seal for anything off the shelf. Last time was internals for a Jeep transfer case.

Obviously new ones are best. But i tried getting them and couldn't. The company we use hear at work couldn't get them. And to be honest when they said they cant i gave up. As mine where tip top and like new anyway.

My diff once swapped out went back straight in. Slightly less back lash and the same tooth engagement. Witch was good as the only way to change that is with shims and i didn't fancy having to mess with that.

I'm booked in. My other car has an LSD so without one the Z feels terrible in the wet. Hope it has the effect I'm looking for !
