Roof Error and Boot won't open
Hi folks,
I know this has been done to death and I'm reading through posts now to try and help, but only just got in so in a rush if anyone can help.
Roof down this morning and back up, no issues. Roof down this afternoon, couple of hour drive, just got in, tried putting up, roof bong with CCID 447 & 558. Opened the boot, tried lifting the tray and back down, no change. Tried locking, leaving 5 minutes etc, no luck. Tried disconnecting battery for 30 seconds, no change except now the boot won't open, also won't open on the key. I don't have a drive let alone a garage so roof is down and parked on the road. I don't have a code reader so can't reset the codes and try. A mechanic friend can do it but not until tomorrow.
Luckily its dry but I would rather not wake up to dog muck and spit in the car come the morning.
Any suggestions welcome

I don’t suppose there is a whole lot you can do, but from experience letting the car fully shut down, then powering it on, (engine running) and praying that it works can sometimes get the roof up.
The roof motor could have overheated, allowing it to cool for 30 mins then trying the above could work.
You likely have a hardware issue, broken wires or microswitches. Weirdly, when mine had a dodgy microswitch the roof would work after leaving the car a while.
If worst comes to worst, try and cover it with something and make sure it’s empty of anything valuable.

(There is a certain amount of time it takes for it to go to “sleep mode”) maybe it’s 15 mins or 30. Probably best to look this up!

A couple more last ditch ideas:
Charge the battery via the bonnet terminals. (If you can)
Take it to a friends / relatives house overnight (if they have off street parking).
Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. Will give it an hour then try it again. Battery should be good, done a couple of hundred miles this weekend and battery only a couple of years old.Deepseaskateboard wrote: ↑Sun Jul 17, 2022 9:49 pm A couple more last ditch ideas:

Been trying to find a friend with a garage I can put it in but not luck. Parked outside the house so not too bad and area is pretty decent but who knows

This sounds like microswitches to me - had the same issue last year and I used my neighbours garage as I don't have one.
The AA said it was a misalignment issue but thought no way and took it a local indie under warranty and right hand microswitch was the issue.

Do the power windows work? I ask this because, the footwell module is integral to operating the top. If the footwell module fails many of the lighting and window functions will stop, as will the convertible top. Just recently happened to my Z4 E89.

Windows work fine so most likely switches. Trying my friend today to see if we can at least get it up, otherwise booked into BMW Wednesday. Yes I know a good indi would better but none round here that I know of specialise in roofs. In the meantime, as it started raining...

Get it booked into a garage, and ask them to store it indoors if they can’t work on it now.Vonlipvig wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 9:26 am Windows work fine so most likely switches. I asked this when mine had an error and they could sympathise.
I suppose the most annoying thing is, that it’s the hottest week on record, but the rain cannot resist a convertible with the roof stuck down. Only in the UK!!

Code when connected is A696 which from looking on here, hall sensor issue. Got it up to BMW today and they're gonna stick it in the workshop till they can look at it. Think I'll make sure to have something to bite down on to hand

You will probably be looking at £400ish for a hall sensor replacement.
They have shot up in price recently.

And this is why the forum is great! Thank you so much. Let's see what BMW quote for it, I'm expecting a fair chunk on labor just the get access to it with the roof where it is as you say

Correction, A68C is the code. Think lack of sleep worrying has stopped the brain from working
