Roof stops half way then continues

Post by flymodrifter » Tue Nov 14, 2023 10:55 pm

Had issue today with my Roof

The roof opened as normal then stops half way with red roof sign on Dash, I then released the button, then pressed again and it opened fully as normal.
It also does the same in closing mode too.

Is this a sign off something brewing ?

Thats usually an indicator that the micro switches on the rams are going faulty..
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Every time this happened to me broken wire, 3 times.
When it stops i think everything relaxes and wires remake contact.
Codes need reading first. I could not do anything without my Foxwell reader, essential.

Over you right ear, rhd, some of the cables are exposed, try pushing around those wires see if you can set off a fault bong.
The system can detect open circuit on wires.

O and why do i keep being logged out of forum??

Genlemen, you all are right. It might be any of these 2 options, but I guess it's a 3rd one.

But
  • this topic better belongs into the "Problems" section and not in "Discussions", right?
  • a bit more exact description might be helpful
  • finally, both topics are open maintenance taks and should be solved asap

This happened to me and was diagnosed by both AA and local auto electricians as a faulty Hall sensor and micro switch.
There are a couple of clips on you tube referring to this problem and replacement. So far I haven’t bothered to effect the repair ,
Quote from local BMW agent £170 plus vat plus fitting but the part can be bought on eBay for around £100 all in.

Any update?

IMHO it's not so funny in this forum, that
a) for always the same roof issue a new thread gets opened instead of reading other, similiar posts at first
b) mostly no feedback will be posted later on :headbang:

People are lazy or is there a search restriction until a number of posts have been made?

Some people are just butt plugs.

1. The people who take up multiple pages of help and then take it to the dealer. That's fine, but they never report back with the dealer solution.
2. The people who are clearly operating over their paygrade, and are just wasting our time.
3. People who buy a used BMW, but won't pay a few hundred dollars for diagnostic scanner, then complain about the dealer shop cost.

Sorry, just me ranting..

Maybe time to put up standard sticky’s on core subjects?
