Ziggy's' back - e89 3.0i remapped

Rather than hijack the other thread (as I did the first time) I'll start my own.

Principally this was to advise the outcome of my 'tune-up' on Ziggy my 3.0i e89 zed.

He went in for a full remap, and I also had a custom exhaust designed and fitted. The exhaust is stainless steel 2.75" wide bore. I stayed with the standard cat as I don't really think a sports cat was going to give me much extra and was going to cost quite a bit more. To help him breath I put K&N filter in.

The car as stock dyno'd at 220bhp on 95 RON. A bit disappointing to be honest. After the remap it's up to 255bhp, butt the gain in torque is about 25% (forgive me can't remember the numbers at the moment).

The exhaust is awesome, and full credit they have done a very neat job, I've retained a twin outlet at the back (polished rolled chrome), so the look is very stock, but the sound isn't! It has given the car some real butch character. When you start it up there is a deal throated growl which quickly settles to a deep, baritone 'opple-plopple'. On the road, it's quite loud - with the roof down, roof up its not too instrusive. The performance is transformed, with a silky creamy smooth delivery, and an aural soundtrack that starts in a throaty roar, goes to a snarl and then tops with a blood curdling yowl! There is also some proper induction noise going on with a strong 'weesh' in there on full bore acceleration. Think racing Healy and you are close, but louder I think and slightly more refined. Finally in lift off there is a lot of 'plopple' and an occasional crackle, which encourages hanging on to gears. I'm the happiest I've been since I sold my XK/R....

I think the biggest surprise is the smoothness, it's just way smoother and free'r than it was as standard. Anyway I just wanted to share this, as a few members had been asking about remap on the N52 e89.... Done by Veizu.

I've also had the callipers done and the roll hoops professionally painted in alipine white to match the bodywork. Next I need a set of RIVA CSL alloys, an Eisman spring kit and a strut brace. Pics and perhaps vid to follow...

Looking to get my exhaust done, do you have any pics of the exhaust while the car was on the lift, would like to get an idea of what was done.
TIA

Nearly no car makes the manufacturers output. This is because the manufacturers test the car tin optimum conditions with the best fuel, oil and optimum temperature, pressure etc.

Actually 220 isn't too bad. The car is only 10000 miles so it's got a bit to come. The previous owners hardly used it at all hence low mileage in the first 5 years.

I didn't want maximum power output - otherwise I'd have bought a turbo. I've got a 435d daily driver and that provides my speed fix, easily faster than any of the Zeds!

No I wanted something that would compliment the roadster character with appropriate aural sound track and power delivery, which this has done in spades! Sounds like a beast!

Will post pics of the installation (very neat) the exhaust stacks (look stock) and the dyno charts as soon as I get back (next week)

Most BMW turbo cars produce more than their quoted power output. The new M4 is a prime example of that with many users finding that they are making nearly as much at the wheels as the manufacturer quotes at the crank.

I think the reason European manufactures do this is because some countries tax cars on power output and often insurance costs are linked with power figures.

And the 435d would get left behind by the 35i and 35is. That's been covered to death in other threads so no need to derail this one!

I seem to be one of the few people who's actually put a 35iS & 335dx up against each other toe to toe. It was a rolling 30mph 1km in drive. The 335dx was ripped to pieces.
