ZHP gearknob, xenons, CDV delete

When you say “CDV delete”, what is it you’re after? Somebody to remove it for you or a modified CDV?

Hello. Well I’m not 100% tbh. I thought maybe people sell a delete valve? Ie nothing inside, an empty valve?

Ah, well there’s the possibility of drilling out the centre of the valve to reduce the delay it introduces and then reinstalling it, but most people just remove it altogether. It’s a 15 minute job if you’re handy with a pair of spanners and the kind of thing a garage might do it for next to nothing if you have the car booked in for something else.

Yeah I’m fairly confident round cars. I take it there is no issue with some air in the system? Ie surely removing the cable will introduce the potential for air into the system?

I was mistaken on the drilling. It involves drill bits but no actual drilling. See https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1227

Based on feedback from people who've gone for the DIY removal option, if you clamp the hose beforehand you won't introduce any air into the system.

ZHP wise you'd probably be better buy one new of a dealer on ebay etc. When they do come up second hand they seem to sell for within circa £20 of their discounted new price so not really worth the wait IMHO. Xenons, unfortunately they're like hens teeth and can be very pricey when they do come up you might be better considering a HID kit but they can have complications if a MOT tester spots them and wants to make an issue of it.

There is also option of fitting hid's and if you find a stupid mot man (mine isn't) you can refit ordinary bulbs for the mot and refit the hid's afterwards.
Mine holds the sensible view that as long as there is cutoff he is happy

I bought my zed just over a year ago and you’ve described the first three mods I did. The CDV delete was done as an ‘add on’ by Ducklakeview, and I can highly recommend him if you’re in/near to the NW. I echo Mack’s comment about the ZHP, and you’ll find that fitting this, and removing the CDV will have a hugely positive impact on driveability. (and ditch the run flats, if fitted).
Ref neons, I have aftermarket HID versions, and my car passed it’s MOT last year, no issue. The tester took the opinion that he didn’t know what was fitted, and he isn’t allowed to remove covers to investigate, so as long as they work, and are adjusted properly, it was a pass. Hopefully he’ll have the same view ina couple of weeks....

The ZHP is definitely much better than standard, but as has been said you might just as well buy new for all the price difference. I fitted mine just after I had the gearbox oil replaced (around 80K miles) and the change action was so much better! :D

Luckily a previous owner had already had the CDV removed - but I haven't done anything about my halogen headlights yet. :(

you surprise me sir, the halogen lights are piss poor and im not sure the xenon are much better, im glad i decided to get the new headlight units and continue the hid's - literally brilliant !

The Xenons are definitely better - I had them on my 1st Z4 so had a direct comparison. But to be fair most times when I'm unlit roads at night they're dual-carriageways or motorways so the Halogen ones aren't such a problem. If it was twisty B-roads I'd probably find it more of a problem. And I'm not competent to swap to HIDs.
